evision schedule for ES-2016

Hopefully your condition normalized now. Many aspirants in the group are going to appear ESE-16. It
is the last exam of ESE on old pattern. I would like to put a schedule for same based on my previous
experience. I had appeared in ES in 2004. It was my 1st attempt and I had succeeded in it. The main
mantra for my success was a whole year of focused and dedicated and single-target preparation.
One thing my professor instilled in me that once you are thorough in basics and fundamentals of
topics and their applications in problem solving then you can beat toughest competitive exams.
With this I started my preparation that too being in a job!!!! Collected all standard books and
Engineering notes and prepared my synoptic notes with a time table. I needed time for study but
being in job it was difficult. Then I changed the way we all think. I made very short notes like one
page or two. During tea break, lunch break, in all available time slots, I used to study. It worked
wonderfully, I finished network theory within 18 days, and it gave me a sense of confidence to move
further. I utilized Sundays, Holidays, even all my CL, EL leaves for the preparation. Colleagues may
taunt at you with all negative words, Or they may distract you with offers of going to pub, party, picnic
or movies. But I was unshakable never ever had an alternate thought from my goal. Once target
locked it has to be achieved. Those days hardly anyone there to guide me in the topics and Internet
was in almost primitive stage used for displaying exam results and notifications. So concept
clearing restricted to text books only.
The first exam I had to appear was GATE, I was very nervous and made many silly mistakes. That
time total mark was 150. My preparation was good with all concepts and fundamentals but my
nervousness eaten up my marks. I was little upset, but when result came; I was surprised to see my
result -my AIR was amazingly high (AIR-210). It gives me tremendous confidence to move further
For ES the only subject I found difficult for self study was Microwave tubes and components. Still I
could manage to done with that and Appeared ES in June. Exam went satisfactorily but I could have
done well if I had some prior guidance about time management, stress management during exams.
When result came I was successful and called for interview.
I had never attended any coaching institutes for GATE or ES but I felt some quality guidance by
GATE or ES toppers or high ranker is desirable for quick concept building and coverage of syllabus.
But coaching is not essential
Now for you to decide whether you can invest so much comfort, time? Whether you can forgo your
favorite TV shows? etc, etc
Once decided there should not be a 2nd thought on it. You need to march ahead and defeat all
hurdles in your way to success like a soldier, who never rests in a battleground till victory!!!!
Now come to pattern of ES papers:

Papeer-1: Except material and components, measurements and instrumentations, everything you
have prepared in GATE, there may be some extra topics like network synthesis in network theory.
Paper-2: Microwave engineering, satellite communication, OFC communication, computer
engineering need to be covered thoroughly. Rest others are part of GATE syllabus.
Success in ES lies in the coverage of Syllabus. Questions are very basic in nature (definitions,
deductions, laws and conceptual). Anyone prepared well for GATE and covered rest of topics of ES
can be able to score 300 to 325 in engineering objective papers together.
For GK, you need to cover up Indian History, Geography, constitutions of India, sports and events of
last 1 years and awards and prizes of national and international importance.
For English, you must be well versed in grammar and vocabulary hope already covered well in
GATE.
For conventional paper, as usual, you need not to study extra. Once you going by fundamentals it is
not difficult to answer these parts.
Revision Plan for last 3 and months :
Paper-1
NT- 5th Feb to 10th Feb
SS- 11th Feb to 16th Feb
EMT-17th Feb to 23th Feb
Material and components- 24th Feb to 29th Feb
Measurement and Instrumentation-01Mar-10Mar
Electronic Devices- 11Mar-14Mar
Paper-2
Analog Electronics: 15Mar-22Mar
Digital Electronics and microprocessor: 23Mar-1Apr
Control System: 2Apr-8Apr
Communication System:9Apr-18Apr
Microwave Engineering: 19Apr-27Apr
Computer Engineering:28Apr-3May
04May to 10 May : Overseeing all the topics, emphasizing difficult concepts which are likely
forgettable.
11 May onward only previous year question practice. Download questions and take print out and
start doing it from start to end. Start from ES-2015 go backward serially as long as possible.
Appearing test series not essential at all... Do not break your head with ill designed questions and
lose your precious time... Old question papers enough.

Devotes 2 to 3 hours daily for GK and English.

This plan is for those who have prepared rigorously for GATE and prepared all other subjects of ES
and want to utilize the available time optimally.
Papeer-1: Except material and components, measurements and instrumentation, everything you
have prepared in GATE, there may be some extra topics like network synthesis in network theory.
