Assembly Descriptions
Familiarity with the components oCthe CASE assembly will aid in troubleshooting
the equipmcnt. The CASE consists orthe following componcnts.
Monitor
The system lIses either a 19" or 1T flat panel monitor rated IEC-950 universal AC
input.
This monitor has a standard IEC320 power cord and a nYI video connector on a
cable f\x the digital DVI input signal.
Th.: monitor displays optimal waveform quality at the system s.:tting of 121\0 x 1024
with a 60llz refresh rate and 16 bit color depth.
Keypad
The keypad is designed as a bus powered, lo'.,v speed USB peripheral using a
Cypress MeU.
There is prot.:ction from ESD 011 the PCB a;; well. The keypad is hot pluggable. and
in the CASE system, it relics on a custom so1tware driver running the L'SB ports on
the motherboard under NT 4.

-------------
Thermal Writer
The thermal writer assembly contains a thermal print head with clle hole sensor. a
motor/encoder assembly to drive the platen rolkr. and an il1t()nnalion Technologies
designed PCB to receive scan line data and motor commands from thc PC over
USB.
The PCB is based on an Cypress Iligh speed USB MCLJ with an SO:" I core. The
program is stored on a FLASH memory chip that can be reprogrammed from the
host Pc. The PCB connects to the thermal print head motor and cue sensor through a
40-pin ribbon harness. A standard typc 'B' RIA LSB connector provides the link to
the PC using any high speed USB /I.-to-B cable under Sm.
The functioning of this LSB writer PCB depends on communication with the host
PC motherboard USB controller which is under the control of a software driver. A
special driver is always needed to communicate with this 'writer PCB (this driver is
built into the application soflwnre). Check operation in the CASE system, since full
hmetionality depends on cooperation with the motherboard USB ports and
associated soH ware drivers.

2-5
Power System
AC pDwcr comes into the unit through an lEC-J20 inlet module that has an
equipmeJ1tiai ground stud mounted ncar it.
The AC power then goes to a power distribution PCB. Its function is \0 route AC
power and isolated AC power to the proper places in the unit. Regular AC power is
muted to the medical grade power supplies. Isolated AC power is derived from the
isolation transformer, and routed to the IEC-950 CRT monitor. N () switching of AC
power is needed with inputs ti'om I O(l-240 V AC since all supplies and the isolation
tranSf0l111er are universal input in the unit.

General Troubleshooting
Problem: Stress test driver settings lost. Stress test profiles were changed or ne\vly created and
arc no lonl,!er there.
Solution: The file ERG. PROTV5AN.DAT (ERG_PROT ANSI.DAT old name before
V4.2) in the Windows directory was inadvertently deleted or overwritten.
A backup of this file should be made after changing profiles so that it can be restored
even after a hard disk error (restore file into Windows din.:ctory).
Problem: Defective data sets in the database. Errors occur during patient sckction. hut not
when selecting examination options.
Solution: Contact technical support for a reorganiz.ation tool, which may repair the error in the
database.
By activating the REORG procedurl~ you can reorganize defective BTRIEVE tiles
from CASE. This repair procedure may become necessary when the data becomes
damaged ftlr some reason or another (e.g. atter a power failure). To carry out the
repair procedure successfully. CASE must first of ali be terminated. There must be
su flicient memory space on your hard disk.
As a general rule, the following applies: memory space required = twice as much
free memory space as the slim of all CASE tiles with the suffix "BTR",
The original CASE files arc still available in the form or"OLD"1iles after
reorganization and should only be deleted when the reorganization has beell
completed sllcccssfully.
Ifrhe reorganization is llllsuecessful. the only option remaining is to retrieve the
latest baekup data or contact technical support for the D:l1abasc Repair Tool
(CARD REP).
Solution: There arc two causes, which may lead to the loss of data on hard disks.
One is a read en'or on the disk; the second is the destructive inlluence of some
viruses. Indications of a defective hard disk sometimes exhibit themselves as
rcading errors in certain sectors. The number of defectivc sectors incrl'ases \"ith
timc. Such a hard disk must be replaced.

If the patient with the patient ID from MAC 1200 already exists in CardioSys/Soft,
the resting ECCi \vill automatically be assigned to this patknt.
If the patient with the patient ID from MAC 1200 docs not exist in the CardioSysf
Soft database. the patient record wi II be generated and the resting EC(J will be
assigned to the new patient record.
A sceond patient record with the name displayed in capital letters is generated only
when a resting ECG with the same acquisition date and time is transferred a second
time. This second resting beG is assigned to the second patil'nt record and can be
dc!ett:d.
Make Sllre that you do not unnecessarily transfer resting [CGs more than once.
If a new resting ECG is transferred after the resting ECG is sent a second time. the
new olle will be assigned to the first patient record.
Problem: The MUSE Web Server works, but an error message appears when the CASE
patient Jist is invoked.
Solution: A MUSEWeb user account must hc created under Windo\'Vs and assigned to the
MUSE group. The user account must also bc created in MUSE.
Question: Network installation using cartiiollser as the domain user does not work. What can
he done?
Answer: For CASE to run in the Windows 2000 environment, the registered user must be a
member of the local group of power lIsers. This applies to both local users and
dOl1lain lIsers. The user mllst have the right to access the Cardio installation
directory and the T(~mp directory. We aSSlIllle you have verified the latter
requirement. So the llscr rights arc probably the root cause orthe probk~m.
Log on to the CASE client as the Administrator (local). and add the user
"')Domain?\cardiouser" to the local user group of power users. Repeat this
conligllfation at each CASE client.
For multiple users, it is recommended to creatc a special Llser group t~)r 1111'l1l on the
domain controller and to add this user group to the local LiseI' group of main Llsers.
To do so, expand the entry Loca/lIscrs ami grollps in the compnter administration
and click the (in)lIps folder. In the \vindow at right. click Main lher. A dialog opens
showing all members of the group. Clicking the Add button opens a second dialog

CAUTION
The CASE contains components that arc sllsceptible to
electrostatic discharge damage. Observe all static precautions
while performing service. Failure to observe these precautions
may result in failure of components.
The following guidelines help make a service workstation more resistant to the LSD
damage:
Discharge any static charge you may have built up before handling
semiconductors or asscmblies containing semiconductors.
.,:~
Usc a static-free work surt~lce (3M pan number 8210 or equivalent) while
handling or working on assemblies containing semicondudol"s.
Do NOT remove semiconductors or assemblies containing semiconductors
from antistatic containers (Velo-stat bags) until absolutely necessary.
These guidelines may not guaranty a IOO'X) static-frec \vorkstation. but greatly
reduce the potcntial for fai lure of any electricaliclectronic assemblies.

NOTE 2: These guideiines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by reflection from structures, objects,
and people.
a
Field strengths from fixed transmitters, such as base stations for radio (cellular/cordless) telephones and land mobile radio, AM
and FM radio broadcast, and TV broadcast cannot be predicted theoretically with accuracy. To assess the electromagnetic
environment due to fixed RF transmitters. an electromagnetic site survey should be considered. If the measured field strength in
the location in which the equipment is used exceeds the applicable RF compliance level above, the equipment should be observed
to venfy normal operation. If abnormal performance is observed, additional measures may be necessary, such as re-orienting or
relocating the equipment.
Over the frequency range 150 KHz to BO MHz, field strengths should be less than 3 Vim.
