Includes music related props

such as headphones and a
piano
There is an inconsistent colour
palette in addition the pink
writing on the yellow
background look unattractive
and excessive. In addition
colour contrast makes some of
the text unreadable
Placement of images is
relatively poor however the
cutting the image out has been
done well as the cut out coverstar doesnt have a rough edge
As targeted at a
young teenage
group the language
such as OMG and
Gossip is
appropriate.
Fonts are not unified which makes
the page look untidy, even for this
style of magazine.

All shots are basic and even though

include a variety of Mise en scene
the background has been poorly
chosen in some shots especially the
double page spread.
All shots are the same distance
(Mid-Long shot) with a high angle

photographs as
appropriate to the context
for presentation, including
cropping and resizing
Accurately using language
and register

Appropriately integrating
illustration and text

Basic Level 2
2435 marks

Follows conventions of a teen

pop magazine, uses language
that relates to the teenagers
that would read the magazine.
Bold fonts and large amounts of
detail relate to a teen pop
magazine.
The font variation is too vast. For
example the cover page especially
uses a random variation of upper
and lower case words and the
contents page involves around 10
different sized fonts.

Using ICT appropriately

for the task set

ICT has been used poorly in

multiple aspects of the
magazine. For example 3D text
has been used in poor
circumstances.

Summary Comment: I give this magazine level 2. The basic knowledge of a magazine hasnt been
applied in some areas bringing the level down. The main issues with this magazine is consistency.
There is no consistency throughout the three pages, consistency in the: Colour palette; font size;
font type and the visual appearance of the page.

Variation level of framing

Even despite the large amount of

photos on the contents page all
shots are a similar distance and
look very familiar (Mid-Long shot)
but angle variation is good.
The double page spread background is
almost irrelevant to that of a music
magazine
Unlike other magazines there is no use
of props such as instruments to portrait
a specific genre. However there is good
lighting for the photos.
Photos do not link to the context of a
music magazine and resizing is poorly
done.

Language is solely based around the

cover star, as if the whole magazine is
about this one artist. The language
doesnt have many links to music at all
bikini body, horoscope and pictures
from her long private weekend break
These headings are almost irrelevant to
a music magazine.

The cover page and the contents page

are different sizes showing
inexperienced nature regarding the
magazine creator.
The variation in text sizes and styles is
much more varied compared to the
previous magazine. There are still
aspects where the font sizes have been
used poorly.
ICT has been used well to make
the models to remove all the
models blemishes and flaws and
cutting out has been done well.

Summary Comment: I give this magazine a level 2. It has made many basic errors. The biggest error
was on the contents page as the text hasnt been lined up and makes the entire magazine look very
unprofessional. To add the photos on the double page spread looks unsophisticated and bares no
relevance to a music magazine. There needs to be more information regarding music.

Good use of Mise en Scene

especially in what the models
are wearing. There is a
noticeable colour palette

Cover image has been cut out
well and shows no signs of
rough patches also cropping
has been done well. Photos
cropped accurately allowing a
good frame size
Register is appropriate to
genre which is good
Mostly appropriate integration

Very good page design, in

some ways the layout is fairly
original
Some text is especially small
and hard to read but a good
variety has been used
successfully
Editing has been done well
however the cover star need
more editing on her face to
remove tired features

Summary Comment: I give this magazine a level 3 however it does show some signs of level 4. This
magazine looks professional and the genre is clear and is presented very well through the models
outfits on the contents page.

Framing is done very well

A complete variety of shots

distances has been included: Close
up; Mid shots and long shots.
All models selected and Mise en
Scene relating to costumes relates
to that of the genre of the
magazine, the dark and grunge style
clothing replicates the rock genre of
magazine.
Consistent colour palate is
maintained throughout the entire
magazine: Black, white and red.
However some colour contrasts
poorly seen on the cover page
Cutting out is done perfectly. The
images have no rough edges.

tour dates; rocking out and

guitarists are prime examples of
accurate language relating to the
genre of this magazine.
Very individual layout that has been
constructed well
The magazine looks very similar to
that of a professional magazine. The
magazine conforms to the
conventions of a music magazine
(especially the cover)
There is a good range of text sizes
and fonts; I personally feel that the
variation has been done to a high
level which aids to the sophisticated
look of the entire magazine.
Some images have been altered
with a greyscale effect and an image
on the contents page has been
edited well.

Summary Comment: I give this magazine a level 4. It is a really sophisticated and unique design that
could pass as a professional magazine, the photographs taken are very good and the orientation of
the photographs on the cover are clever.

Framing is excellent and gives a very
professional look to this magazine

A variety of close shots; mid shots;

long shots and extreme long shots
have been used in this magazine
Various guitars, stage, microphone
and what looks to be an audition
have been incorporated, inferring
that this magazine is primarily for
music purposes.
Multiple guitars and a microphone
including a stage

Photographs have been

manipulated perfectly in the link to
the rock genre that this magazine
portrays well.

Very good, relevant use of language,

for example band, rock and
solo
The proportion is brilliant

Really good layout, could pass as a

professional magazine that is sold in
shops
The variety is used in all aspects,
adding to the sophistication of this
magazine.
The rearranged text and the drop
down cap in addition to the
signature and the plectrum shape
makes the magazine very aesthetic
and visually appealing to purchase.

Summary Comment:
Excellent magazine design very well thought out and well constructed. The images used for the
magazine are brilliant and really represent the genre/ audience of this magazine. The additional
features to this magazine such as the plectrum; the signature and the rearranged text makes this
magazine come across professional to the extent that it could pass as a real magazine that would be
purchased in store.
