Manny Pacquiaos statement about same-sex marriage has intensified the social clamour

about homosexual relationships. In his statement, he compared same-sex relationships as

masahol pa sa hayop. He claims that animals do not practice homosexuality and they are better
in recognizing opposite sex upon choosing their partners than those of the homosexuals. Because
of those reasons, he believes that homosexual relationships are worst that those of the animals.
Nevertheless, the basis of his statement was falsified by the scientific truth that over 1,500
animal species exhibits homosexuality (Ellerton 2011). Even though I am not in favour of
legalizing same-sex marriage in the country, I disagree on how many Pacquiao compared human
homosexual relationships into animals because it is scientifically incorrect, politically
unaccepted and morally unsound.
In contrast to Manny Pacquiaos statement, scientific studies have shown that animals are
also confused upon choosing their partners and that animal homosexuality is dominant for it
directly or indirectly facilitates interaction and induce protection among animals (Driscoll 2008).
The existence of homosexual courtship between mature and immature fruit male flies defies the
assertion of Manny Pacquiao. Fruit flies exhibit this kind of courtship because the mature males
failed to identify the sex of the ambiguous immature ones (Dukas 2010). Moreover, Another
rebuttal to Manny Pacquiaos statement is that homosexuality has been the animals way of
creating and maintaining relationships with other members of their race. The bottlenose dolphins
which are seated on the top of animal intelligence exhibit the highest rate of homosexuality
because it enhances their relationship with the same-sex of the same race (Bailey and Zuk).

Homosexual acts in the dolphins case serves as an avenue to establish trust in one other and
further development a strong relationship (Sommer and Vasey 2006). Protection has also been a

benefit of homosexual relationships among animals. Observing the behaviour of 20 Japanese

macaques and two baboons, Gilbert Vann Tassel Hamilton observed that association between
mature and immature male macaques was beneficial for the latter for it ensures safety upon them
during attacks (Driscoll 2008). Habitat is an important variable of survival so in the case of black
male swans, they prefer choosing another male in making their nest sturdier than with a black
female swan partner (Driscoll 2008).

Reproduction can also be enhanced indirectly through same-sex interaction upon animals
and strongly refutes the statement of Manny Pacquiao that animals are not confused in choosing
their. practice same-sex encounters to succeed in improving his ability to reproduce with a
heterosexual partner on the latter part of his life (Bailey and Zuk 2009). Fruit flies exhibit a
male-male courtship (Insert conclusion here)
Observing the behaviour of 20 Japanese macaques and two baboons, Gilbert Vann Tassel
Hamilton observed that female macaques have greater prerogative of having coitus into a more
dominant female in her race (Driscoll 2008).
