Introduction:

William James , a Harvard Psychologist, firmly stated that man uses only about one-tenth
of his greatest potential in life.

Think of the 90% of you that now lies totally ignored and untapped.

One of the Objectives of this seminar is to show you how you can use more of your
potential by the process of self-evaluation which comes from the self-knowledge.

WHY WE ARE THE WAY WE ARE

As children, we heard those older than us saying a multitude of things about us, Some of
these things told us we were GOOD, PRODUCTIVE, ATTRACTIVE & LOVED. Some
of them told us that we were BAD, LAZY, UNABLE TO DO CERTAIN THINGS.

1. Because the people who said these things were so much OLDER and held so
much authority over us, we accepted the thoughts without the question---- GOOD
OR BAD

2. As we grew, we incorporated these things we felt about ourselves into a mental

picture of ourselves called SELF-IMAGE.

3. We took the good and the bad and the in-between and accepted them as truth.
Very few of us ever stopped and logically or objectively examined those beliefs.
We just accepted them.

As MATURING individuals, we took these mental pictures and shaped, whether we

knew it or not, our whole lives around what we thought about ourselves.

1. If we thought ourselves incompetent, we became incompetent.

2. If we thought ourselves beautiful, productive people, we became just that way.
3. This happened because our subconscious mind accepted the “Truth” which the
subconscious mind fed it and acted exactly that way.

SELF-IMAGE Psychology

This is the name given to a theory and movement dealing with self image. One of the
founder is DR. MAXWELL Maltz. He was one of the world’s most widely known and
highly respected plastic surgeons.

A. During his many experiments in the re-growth of injured tissues, Dr. Maltz
discovered a little known SIDE EFFECTS of the PLACTIC SURGERY.
1. When he removed outward scars or deformities, he observed a RADICAL,
CRUCIAL INWARD CHANGE in the patient’s personality.

2. He proved that personalities can be changed for the better by eradicating

“EMOTIONAL SCARS”, just as plastic surgery removes OUTER SCARS.

B. Dr. Maltz had thousands of cases in which he did remarkable plastic surgery only
to find that the patient still felt he or she was UNATTRACTIVE.

In many cases, he found that patients coming to him did not need any cosmetic
surgery at all---just a change in their self-concepts.

C. Millions of people all over the world cannot do things because they believe the
cannot.

1. These cannots defeat themselves at every turn before they reach the
corner.
2. The subconscious mind, actually STOP THEM from succeeding because
of all the NEGATIVE programming that has been done in their lives.

H. This” CAN DO” attitude is also known as POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE

METHODS FOR CHANGING SELF IMAGE

PMA is all about having the COURAGE AND IMAGINATION TO DREAM

SOMETHING, BELIEVE IT AND ACHIEVE IT THROUGH HARD WORK

1. A salesman lacking in self-confidence and a PMA in his dealings with people can
actually turn prospects away by acting overshy or fearful. A man like this will
always be less than he could be. A man who is willing to change for the better
and grow in self-image could move from where he is to anywhere he wants to go.

a. If I could have any job or position I wanted, what would I do?
b. If I could live my life again, what changes would I make?
c. What has been my greatest accomplishment in life?
d. What are my greatest strengths?
e. What has been my disappointments?
