How to Use Bentonite Clay Internally
Camden Whole Health 0284-Edit
By Susan Hamill
There are not many substances better able to promote internal cleansing than ben
tonite clay. However, there are some caveats.
Lately in my colon-hydrotherapy business I have seen the result of using bentoni
te improperly, leading to dryness and blockage in the colon, in direct oppositio
n to the expected results. This comes from the American idea that More is Bette
r.
Clay therapies have been used for known hundreds and perhaps thousands of years
by indigenous peoples for internal and external cleansing and healing. Bentonite
clays
(there are three basic chemical varieties) are some of the best clays to use for
healing purposes and have been mined and treated for these purposes in the west
for many decades. At this time I will only address using bentonite internally.
Unfired clay is a vital reactive substance and has been called living earth becaus
e of it s electromagnetic charge. The clay results from the long weathering and ag
ing of volcanic ash and retains the electromagnetic charge formed when the ash w
as created from thermal-dynamic heat and volcanic action. It form as little plat
elets which have a positive charge along their edges and a stronger negative cha
rge across their large flat surfaces. It is this stronger negative charge that d
raws so many forms of toxic material to it, grabbing and holding it until it pas
ses from the body through the digestive tract.
Clay is extremely absorbent so it draws toxic substances and swells to many time
s its size in water. Various toxins drawn by clay are pathogenic viruses, herbi
cides, heavy metals, pesticides, radio active substances, and parasites. Needles
s to say, this is a good thing. So if a little clay is good for these things, mo
re must be better, right? Take care, my cleansing friends.
I first learned about clay as a healing tool in the early seventies from (the Fr
ench naturopath) Michel Abehsera s book, Our Earth, Our Cure , and it was from this b
ook that I first understood some of how clay works. It works as a magnet, not a
s a mack truck. What I mean is that it works delicately and more is definitely N
OT better. One friend who came to see me had been following the directives of an
otherwise great cleanse, but which recommended that one build up to 4 tablespoo
ns a day. Michel Abehsera recommended 1 teaspoon in a glass of water, and then o
nly drinking the clay water until one had built up a tolerance for it, and then
slowly adding the clay itself.
Here is what happens, or doesn t happen. Clay is earth. It s heavy. It s dense. If it
bumps up against some impaction on the colon wall, it won t necessarily push it th
rough. Part of it will adhere, adding to the compaction. A small amount will not
be a problem, but four tablespoons magnified to ?????. This can create new or a
dded constipation which will be exacerbated for anyone who isn t drinking a LOT of

water during a period of clay cleansing. Some of the commercial uses of bentoni
te are in cement, adhesives, kitty litter, pond sealers, preserving mummies (tru
e story), etc. Get it? It dries and binds.
Think of clay as a catalyst rather than an active agent. There is nothing partic
ularly unusual in its metallic components. Rather than thinking only of clay s ab
sorptive qualities, think of its magnetic qualities. You don t need a lot of it t
o do the job especially if you have prepared it properly.
CLAY NEEDS TO BE SOAKED IN WATER remember, 1 teaspoon in a full glass
for a mini
mum of thirty minutes, but several hours is preferable. The water activates its e
lectromagnetic charge. Be sure to remove the metallic spoon used to stir from th
e water. Preparing the glassful before bed is a good habit. The longer the clay
sits in the water the more it imparts its electromagnetic charge into the water,
making the water into medicine. The whole glass gets charged, so you don t need v
ery much of the physicality of the clay itself to draw toxins. This is true not
only regarding the detoxifying action of clay but even more so for its catalytic
actions. Catalytic action simply refers to those actions in the body that are s
timulated by the presence of clay rather than by its direct contact, such as the
ability to restore organ function, stimulate red blood cells, regulate radioact
ivity in the body. These catalytic functions I have no direct understanding of,
but refer to information cleaned from reading in order to give my readers a litt
le deeper sense of the range of the internal healing influences of clay.
It s recommended to avoid combining clay therapy with either pharmaceutical or hom
eopathic medicines. The action of clay is inhibited by medicines. Wait until you
are not on any medicine regime before trying clay cleansing.
Clay water should be ingested on an empty stomach if possible, either early in t
he morning or before bed. If taken a little before meals it can decrease stomach
pains that occur after eating. And even though you are taking it in solution, s
till be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day. For people with a tend
ency toward constipation, it is better to take your clay in the evening. A daily
regime can be as long as three weeks; then take a break of at least a week. Cla
y cleansing is totally compatible with nutritive cleansing, but if combining it
with complete fasting -water or juices only
add psyllium seed for fiber.*
One last thing. Clay is best stored in darkness, however, exposing it to sun s ene
rgy (and air and rain) before using it will make it more active.
* psyllium seed can also be overdone with similar results.

Drinking Dirt: Bentonite Clay Detox
Bentonite Clay #Detox
Since it's February, you might expect that I'm going to post about romance or ho
w to knit a scarf or maybe even something football related, but I'm not doing th
at. We are going in a totally different direction! I'm going to talk about dirt
and poop. Woohoo!!! Excited, right?! It's so much better than love and stuff. Ew
.

So, I drink dirt. I just love saying that. People never know if I'm serious or i
f I'm using my "special" sense of humor on them. I'm definitely serious. But it'
s a special kind of dirt called Bentonite Clay.
Not only is it a great detox, but it's also helped with IBS symptoms.
Why I Drink Dirt
1) It's Natural
Bentonite Clay is one of the most powerful substances Mother Nature has given us
.
Have you ever watched those wildlife documentaries and seen the animals shameles
sly eating dirt? They are actually eating clay. They instinctually know that cla
y will help with digestion and elimination of toxins. It's programmed into their
behavior and I bet that at one time in history it was our instinct to eat dirt,
too. But I bet that some jerk-face decided that it was "uncivilized" to eat dir
t and everyone else was like "Yay! Woo!! Civilized people! No dirt!!" so we stop
ped.
I bet it happened just like that.
2) Detox
This isn't just any dirt. Bentonite clay that can produce a negative electric ch
arge once it's hydrated which helps to pull heavy metals, toxins and radioactive
material out of your body and into your poop which then goes into the toilet th
us exiting your holy vessel. It's pretty awesome.
However-- this is super important-- don't let your clay come in contact with met
al. The negative ions will absorb the ions from the metal and then a) the clay l
oses some of it's pull b) you are drinking some metals which will bind to the cl
ay and be excreted, but still-- you are ingesting metal. No thank you.
It's similar to eating Wheaties apparently. Watch this YouTube Video. It's about
cereal and a magnet and what happens when they collide! It's slightly disturbin
g so watch at your own risk (especially if you like Wheaties). Also, it's a good
reason to go buy some clay.
If that doesn't freak you out, then you can look at this article which shows you
32 surprising sources of toxic heavy metals.
3) Help certain ailments
Clay has been researched through evidence based studies and definitely seems pro
mising, but it hasn't been researched for all it's potential yet. We are seeing
more people with different ailments claiming that bentonite clay has helped thei
r symptoms or even recovery from their illness.
Bentonite Clay could be beneficial with health concerns like the following:
Supports digestion
Supports healthy skin
Help boost up the immune system
Cleanse the liver, colon and skin
Help provide some trace minerals that humans can sometimes lack in their die
ts
Improves symptoms of dehydration
Aids in the absorption of nutrients
Helps support healthy gut flora
Supports parasite removal from the gut
Help to to correct the imbalances in bacteria of the GI tract

People who should NOT take clay:

Iron absorption issues -- you may need blood monitoring.
High blood pressure
Check with your doctor if you are taking prescription medications to make su
re it will not interfere with their absorption. ALWAYS take medication and vitam
ins either 30 minutes before or 2 hours after you ingest clay.
If you have concerns, always check with your doctor.
Side Effects:
The most common side effect is constipation because the clay pulls water from yo
ur colon as it passes through. So drink water. But if adding more water to your
diet isn't going to fly, then you can add fiber to the clay to help the poo slid
e right out.
You may also experience some detox symptoms when you first begin to use bentonit
e clay such as the following:
Head Pain
Nausea
Fatigue (Eeoyre) or extreme energy (Tiger)
Body aches
Nasal or sinus issues
Sore throat
GI irregularities
Cold Sores
Skin rashes
Sleeping difficulty
Increased or decreased sex drive
Flu-like symptoms
Feel free to take breaks from this detox. In fact, you should take breaks if you
start to feel ill. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!!!
How to Drink Bentonite Clay?
8 oz water (room temp is best)
1 tsp to 1 TBSP of Bentonite Clay
Either mix the clay in the water with a PLASTIC spoon or add a PLASTIC lid and s
hake that bad boy up. Remember-- no metal! Your drink will be less clumpy with t
he violent shaking vs gentle spoon mixing.
Now you have options:
Either let the drink sit for a few minutes to let the clay settle on the bot
tom or drink it right away.
You can choose to either drink the clay that settles at the bottom of the cu
p or discard it.
Detox drink
For beginners: drink 1 tsp of clay a day. You may want to take slight breaks for
the first few weeks due to detox symptoms-- this is recommended. For example, y
ou can consume bentonite clay for 3-4 days and then take a 2-3 day break and the
n resume.
I drink bentonite clay every day for 6 weeks twice a year and then I also drink
it as needed if I'm feeling bloated, sluggish, need a good poo, or if I think th
at I may be getting sick. You can drink a small amount (1-2 tsp) daily for maint

enance.
For a major detox, I'll drink it a few times a day for 5 days.

I use Redmond Trading Company Clay but there's a lot of good clay companies out
there-- just do your research before you buy (like making sure they don't use me
tal when they collect the clay).
I'm doing a week long detox program using herbs so stay tuned to see my post abo
ut that!! I'm shameless I know.
If you don't want to buy the powder, you can buy the clay in capsule form: Redmo

Disclaimer: I was not paid for this review, but I did receive the clay for free
from Redmond Trading Company and I was instructed to provide an unbiased review
(They are pretty confident). Seriously, I would tell you if it was horrible. It'
s definitely not. I love it!
If you buy any of the products from my recommended Amazon links I will get a ver
y tiny and rather small commission from Amazon (your price stays the same) which
I will use to buy more stuff to blog about. True Story.
