T1W2 Assignment #2 Rights &

Responsibilities
The aim of this assignment is for you to demonstrate a good understanding of the
rights and responsibilities that apply to a software developer.
A developer is a member of a team which is producing software products which are sold
to the general public.
Identify:1. The rights
and
2. The responsibilities
that apply to this position.
1. RIGHTS: Get ownership rights- if the developer gains the ownership rights as
they can comfortably use, commercialise, and modify the software without any
restrictions or threats of ending a contract with license agreements. Another
reason is that if they can reuse their knowledge of the previous product and reimplement the codes or build another for other client projects.
2. RESPONSIBILITY: Beware joint ownerships- many developers forget to
clarify the full implication of this responsibility as many joint ownerships dont
just vary on the intellectual property, but if the product is shared with
developers from another country then they have different laws on how the joint
ownerships are interpreted. An example of this is that a developer in the team
is in the US while the other is from England. The laws in the US state that the
joint copyright owner may commercialise a copyrighted work without the other
joint owners consent. While the laws in England state that the joint copyright
owner cannot exploit their rights without the other joint owners consent. Now
these can create some problems for the team which is why they must carefully
consider the responsibilities when acknowledging their rights.
