Impact Assessment Overview

Intent: Identify the impact of Release 10 features to upgrading

customers so that you can plan and execute your upgrade and later
uptake new features
Features identified in this presentation are the same as those

documented in the Whats New Guides, Release Content Document,

and Release Training

Copyright 2014, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. |

Impact Assessment Overview

Key upgrade guidance:
Your upgrade effort should focus on validating that what worked in Release 9

continues to work after the upgrade is applied

Limit your implementation work during the upgrade to those features which are

absolutely required when you release your environments to your users

Defer uptake of new features to the post-upgrade period

Feature Level Uptake Definitions

Uptake Option
New feature or enhancement to existing functionality
Is this something brand new to the module or an improvement to that which was available in previous releases?
Automatically available to users as part of upgrade
Will the feature automatically appear coming out of the upgrade or is effort required by the user to turn it on (in which case see
comments)?
Deploy after upgrade if desired
If you elect to make use of new functionality you will generally do so after you have completed the upgrade (in which case an X
appears in the column). If the column is blank then this feature will appear in Fusion and there is no decision-making involved.
Work/re-work (configuration, implementation , security ) required
An X appearing in this column means that user effort is required in any numbers of areas such as:
Determining if this functionality is appropriate
Revisiting decisions around configuration, security and user access, personalizations, reporting
Effort in terms of loading data, testing, training, report re-write
Consider Hiding
These are features that you may want to delay revealing to your users because it may be appropriate for a future business event or
process or it may perhaps generate unnecessary questions and phone calls from your users.

11

Overview
Release 10 is introducing a new Simplified Reference Role Model
After the upgrade is applied, your pre-existing security setup will be
retained.
The new model will be installed via the upgrade but will not be active until
you adopt it after the upgrade period.
Duty Roles and Privileges for new Release 10 features will NOT be added to
your pre-existing security setup.
Uptake of new Release 10 features after the upgrade has been applied will
require you to either:
Add Duty Roles and/or Privileges to your pre-existing security setup; or
Implement the Simplified Reference Role Model
Copyright 2014, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. |

12

Simplified Reference Role Model: New with Release 10

Introduces a new flattened role model with:
Fewer Duty Roles and Duty Role levels within a Job Role
New Aggregate Privileges (one Function Security Privilege with Data Security
Privileges)

Adoption of the new model provides you several business benefits:

New model makes it easier to understand, maintain, and customize delivered roles
Aligns you with what will, over time, become the predominant solution
Allows Oracle to better support you

Customers should begin the new model uptake effort only after the
upgrade has been applied and you have the time and resources to adopt it.
If possible, all upgrading customers should target uptake of the new model
prior to the Release 11 upgrade

13

Simplified Reference Role Model: Uptake Considerations

Uptake of the new role model requires manual configuration work and is
not required until you have the time and resources to migrate.
For more information about the new role model and guidance for when
and how to migrate to it, review the following content as part of your postupgrade planning:

Exposing or Hiding New Release 10 Features

Guidance for customers who choose to implement new features before migrating to the new role model
If you want to expose a
new R10 feature

and that feature requires a

Privilege your users already have

and that feature requires a

Privilege your users do not already
have

If you want to hide a

new R10 feature

and that feature requires a new

R10 Privilege

and setup is not necessary to

configure it

your users will be able to use the new

feature after the upgrade is applied.

and setup is necessary to

configure it

your users will not be able to use the new

feature until you configure it via setup.

and setup is not necessary to

configure it

your users will not be able to use it until you

add the Privilege to the appropriate Job
Role(s).

and setup is necessary to

configure it

your users will not be able to use it until you

configure it via setup and add the Privilege to
the appropriate Job Role(s).

no action is required because

the Privileges which enable it
are not applied to your preexisting Release 9 role
definitions.

15

Exposing or Hiding New Release 10 Features

Guidance for Customers who choose to implement new features while migrating to the new role model

Identify which new delivered Application Job/Abstract Roles requirements

customization because they expose features you dont use
Those feature to which you are not subscribed
Those features you wont currently use

Create custom equivalent versions of new Application Job/Abstract Role

which expose features you dont use
At a minimum, address Abstract Roles for Employees and Line Managers
See link for Release 10 Upgrade Guide for Oracle Cloud Applications Security

Above approach simplifies uptake of subsequent upgrades:

Avoids automatically exposing features to which you are not subscribed or dont use
Allow you to roll-out many new release features only when you are ready to do so
