Dr.

Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

Christ Community

I shared last weekend about the dangerous dragon of

individualism, which leads to independence from God
and others. I gave a quick fly-over view of the first century
church from Acts 15. This is so significant that I want you to
read it for further meditation, study, and application.
1. There were obvious leaders, primarily the apostles
and elders (which also referred to pastors) (vs. 2, 4, 6,
22, 23). There were also key leaders (vs. 13, 22, 25, 27).
2. The church was a clearly defined group. They gathered together (v. 6)
with all the brothers (vs. 3, 13). They were the whole church (vs. 4, 22) as
the assembly (v. 12).
3. They exhibited unity in one accord (v. 25).
4. They were speakers of the word of the gospel (vs. 3, 7, 12, 13, 27, 35).
5. They were Bible-centered (vs. 15-18) which was the Word of the Lord
(vs. 21, 35, 36). The scripture was interpreted and applied (vs. 19, 20).
6. There was clear communication in the church as to needs and convictions
(vs. 22, 23, 30).
7. They had specific ethical and moral standards of behavior (v. 29).
8. They sought to resolve problems (vs. 1, 2, 24), even when there was
disagreement among leaders (vs. 37-39).
9. There was encouragement (vs. 31, 32) and strengthening of the believers
(vs. 32, 41).
10. They believed in evangelism of the lost (v. 11), missions to other cultures
(vs. 3, 7), and follow-up with new believers (vs. 36-40).
11. Even when there were challenges, they achieved resolution as they
commended one another to the grace of the Lord (v. 40).
May FBCN continue as such a Christ-honoring community!
