There are different types of computers that each have different

speeds.

MICROCOMPUTERS
These are the smallest and
slowest types of computers.
These are the computers you
use at home, school and in the
work places. Microcomputers
are used by everyone. They
are used for games, sending
mails, playing music, watching
movies, surfing the net and so
on. There are different types of microcomputers. All the
computers you see each day are types of microcomputers.
Research the names of at least 4 types of Microcomputers.

WORKSTATION COMPUTERS
These are about the same size as the largest
type of microcomputer but faster.
These computers are for professional
use. They are found in small
businesses. They are used by professionals like designers,
architects, artist, cartoonist and engineers to create designs.
Designs such as pictures for cartoons and movies are examples of
what a workstation is used for.
MAINFRAME COMPUTERS
These are much larger and much faster
that both microcomputers and the
workstation computer. These computers
are not for home use. They are used by
large
companies to keep very large companies to keep
very large amounts of data. Banks, insurance companies and
government agencies are some of the places that are run by
mainframes. A single mainframe can have hundreds or thousands
of other computers attached to it. An ATM us one such terminal
that gives you access to information on a mainframe.
SUPERCOMPUTERS
These are the largest and the fastest type of computers. These
computers are called processing giants. These computers are used
by researchers, scientist, engineers and meteorologist.
Supercomputers are mainly used for research purposes such as
long term weather forecasting and calculating complicated
mathematical formulas. They are found in places like large

universities, weather
military agencies.
