Donald Fream says "Brother Soodrow Phillips

arrived
in Jamlca 9 April, and hia family ill follow as soon as they
receive their visa." The work is going forward. Fourteen
have been baptized recently at Pedro River. Brother Fream

writes "There were four (baptisms) the first time I visited

Pedro iUver~six this time. During the baptism, several
worthless fellows from the village came to watch the service
and mock. The baptism was scarcely over before they stripped
off naked and rode horses into the water. Their actions,

however, did not deter the Christians, and that same evening

four more confessed their Lord.,..Jamaica is divided into

13 parishes or counties, ffle have churches in six of them. That

still leaves seven parishes untouched by the plea for the New

Testament churcb-thei^ is so much yet to do I We want to thank

you that are helping in the Lord's work hcre-for your prayers,
and your gifts of money, clothing. Bibles, literature, and

rings. It Is our earnest pra er that wemight be found faithful

stewards of all Aese things you have intruuted to our keeping."

175 native leaders,rpoms31 churches and 16 preaching points with a total membership
of 1,286, recently enjoyed a day of fellowship, teaching and prayer'at the E'arton
church, "The leaders gave reports of the aooomplishments of the various churches. The

feports, on the whole, were verygood, although the year 1950 was a rather upsetting
one with the changing of missionariesand no missionary on the field at all for
several months," Four second-year studen s and one new one are mrolled in the current

session of Jamaica Bible Seminary,The Jamaica Christians reports that "Several more

have expressed a desire to enroll. It takes $30 a month to house, feed, clothe, and teach
each onenot very much when one consi ders the result in souls saved. Trained mtive

miuisters and van-^elists "are the Jiope of the cause of Chri st in Jamaica, The Jamaican

is capable and willing to do the work, but he needs trainingm and Re needs financial

Dear Brother McFarland:

I arrived in JamaL ca to join forces with Bro.

and Sister Fream April 11th, My wife and three
ohiJd ren joined me April 27th here at Awarton,
V/e thank, each one who had a part in making our
coming to Jamaica possible.

Since arriving I have visited eight churches

together with Bro. Fream and there have been 17
responses to the invitation.

May 2nd is the beginning of a nev/ semester in

the Jamaica Bible Seminary,

V/e have four students

enrolled and need many more but $30.00 a month must

be pledged for the support of each student.

Here is

the f\.iture of the churches of Christ in Jamaica.

V/e ask God to raise up those v/ho will supnort a student

to preach the word of God.

The cost of travel to Jamaica was much more than

we had ex"nected and our funds are very low,

V/e put up

a $1500,00 cash bond for entry which we had not expected

to pay and that used up most of the funds with which
we had hoped to purchase a small Bnglish car. V/e pray
that someone might see the need and provide the money
that we could have a car to visit the many churches
that need teaching.
Our days are full and we oftne wish just was
just a little more time and a little less heat. The
spring rains make it very humid, Friday we got about
six inches of rain in less than two hours.

The room

in which our children are to sleep still has no

windov/s so they are in the "front room" until we can

fix someway to keen out the rain.

Sincerely,

V/oodrow'hillips
