Leaders Guide Week of April 24, 2016

Centered
Exodus 11-12
This study brings us to reflect on our true core. While we might define ourselves
(unconsciously) by our profession, our family, our appearance, our outward signs of status, our
education, or any number of elements that give us our sense of self, the Gospel for the
believer should radically change all that.
Other facets of our self-image can or will be taken away. The impact of the Gospel marks us
forever.
Lets explore ways we can be alert to the practical benefits of the Gospel to shape our identity,
nourish us on our Ultimate Journey (and on all the stages of our Natural Journey), and clarify
our sense of purpose in life. This is the Center.
The Working it Out questions are designed to help members of your group wrestle with their
own true Center.
Be sure to ask your group to point to specific scripture and biblical truths that have helped them
define their Center.
You might also see what current challenges those in your group are facing that should cause
them to go back to this nourishing well.
Its about the journey being changed by Christ and used by Christ.

LOOKING BACK
Moses: The Ultimate Journey

Centered
Exodus 11-12

Every life needs a defining center. For the believer in Jesus Christ that hollow place of self and
guilt have been exchanged for a new identity and purpose. In a graphic sense when Moses and
the people of Israel experienced that first Passover, they were born again to a new life.
Thinking It Through (agree/disagree consider/contemplate)

In redemption the sinner is set free from his condemnation and slavery to sin.
~John F. Walvoord

The true identity theft is not financial. It's not in cyberspace. It's spiritual. It's been taken.
~Stephen Covey

Your identity is firmly anchored in Christ's accomplishment.

~Tullian Tchividjian

The reconciling gospel is always at the forefront of the churchs social action, because a full
belly is not better than a reconciled soul.
~Matt Chandler
Working it Out
1. What have been some of the formative building blocks that shape your sense of
identity?
2. How have you experienced the Gospel as a nourishing well that continues to replenish
your life?
3. How do you describe your unique purpose in life?
4. Do you believe that a person can change their center? If so, how might this happen?
