FOCUS ON THE PARISH
Next Sunday we will have a picnic on the parish grounds. It is the birthday of our parish. June 2 nd
marks our 32nd year.

The picnic is from 1 to 4 PM. There is no admission charge, but we do need to know that you are
coming so that we can have enough hamburgers, hot dogs, beverages. If you have not already done so,
fill out the coupon for the picnic which you will find in today’s bulletin and on the shelves at all the
doors. Drop it off at the rectory by Wednesday, May 28th.

Do make the effort to come if possible. It is an excellent opportunity to get to know your fellow
parishioners. Those who attended last year know that a good time was had by all.

I also want to remind you that next Saturday, May 31st following the vigil mass we will have a
reception in Seton Hall for Deacon Joe Niland. Deacon Joe will be retiring on June 4 th. That day is a
special day for him for on that day he was ordained a deacon.

Deacon Joe has been faithfully serving the parish these past 19 years. Not only has he assisted
regularly at Sunday masses but thrice weekly he has as well. Deacon Joe also assisted at funeral
masses and vigil services. He performed baptisms and did the Pre-Jordan classes. Up until recently he
also trained the altar servers. Deacon Joe was also ex officio a member of the pastoral council. I
personally am very grateful for his assistance these past 8 ½ years.

While waiting to say your personal thanks to Deacon Joe, we will have hors d’oeuvres and beverages
to hold you over. Come and give Deacon Joe the send off he deserves.
Father Mike

EVANGELIZATION OUTREACH
A parish is a community of faith. We Catholics have a unique treasure in the Eucharist, the Body and Blood
of Christ which we celebrate in a special way today. Belief in the reality of the presence of God under the
appearances of bread and wine sets us apart from almost every other Christian denomination. We gather at
the banquet table of the Lord.

So what does this belief mean in our day to day relationships? How sacred do we hold this treasure? We
sing, "We remember how you loved us to your death and still we celebrate for you are with us here and we
believe that we will see you when you come in your glory Lord, We remember, we celebrate, we believe."

These words sum up what we must do in our often silent evangelization effort. We know the power of love.
We are often more touched by a smile, a gesture or a look than by a word. If you hope to reach out to others
and bring them to the great banquet of love which Jesus has promised, be yourself the quiet, welcoming
maitre d'.

As you enter this sacred place, remember, genuflect profoundly acknowledging the Presence of God. Be
dressed appropriately for the celebration. Look around. Smile. Celebrate. Sit up front and in the center of
the pew so that others will be comfortable enough to join you. After Mass, talk to those around you on the
way to your car and be courteous in the parking lot.

During the week, believe, comment on the readings and remember what touched or lifted you up in the
homily. Engage others with the statement, "I believe that we will see Jesus when He comes again in his
glory." O yes, expect a reaction. Don't be defensive. You have a right to your belief. It is after all what any
Christian believes who takes the Lord at his word.

I wish to thank all who have contributed so generously so that I can continue to share faith with you. Our
beloved Lord will bless; you are in my prayers. Contact me sistermarymcgarrity@comcast.net
