EQUIVALENCIAS
YARN EQUIVALENTS
The following chart shows yarns that are interchangeable, which allows
you to use the same instructions in this book with various yarns of the
same thickness and needle size. It is important to work a 4x4 swatch to
make certain you using the correct size of needles to obtain the required
stitch gauge, and to find out if the tension is what you desire for the
selected garment.
The neddles listed below are only suggested; use whatever size needle
is necessary for you to obtain the correct stitch gauge with you personal
style of knitting.
The yarns are divided into groups according to the similarity of thickness,
appearance, and coloring.
NOTE: All yarns in the same group do not always have the same yardage.
Calculate required number of balls needed by comparing the yardage
given in the original yarn to the yarn desired.

Turn, or pass
One turn, (or pass) means to work all the stitches from
the LH needle to the RH needle.
When the instructions say to increase or decrease every
two rows, if only one stitch is involved, it is usually
increased or decreased at the beginning and/or at the end
of the right side row; then the wrong side row (second row)
is worked before the next increase or decrease is made.
Increasing and decreasing more than one stitch involves
casting on or binding off, which is done only at the
beginning of a row so the yarn is not left hanging away
from the next stitches to be worked. Increasing every 4,
6, etc rows, means that entire rows are worked between
each increase or decrease.

Fringe
Cut a piece of cardboard half the width you want the fringe to
be. Wrap the yarn in a single layer around the cardboard. When
you have the correct number of pieces, or when the cardboard
is full, cut the yarn along one edge of the cardboard.
Count the number of strands needed for
each group, fold in the center, and using a
crochet hook, pull the entire group through
the knitted piece, leaving the loop of strands
on the hook. Wrap the strands around the
hook and pull the loose ends through the
loop on the hook. Remove hook and pull the
group tight to fasten it to the knitted piece.

(1) Always have the crochet hook in front of the loom when
making the crochet stitch, and always fasten each wrap
separately, not two at a time, so the tension will not be
too tight
(2) On the first wrap only, the crochet hook is inserted into
the center of the slip knot; on the following stitches the
hook, is inserted under the front edge of the previous
wrap.
(3) After the first wrap and crochet stitch, when turning the
loom, take the crochet hook between the two prongs
to the other side of the loom before working the next
stitch.

General instructions
When making a long strip and the wraps cover most of the
loom before the number of wraps are completed, the joined
wraps can be slipped off the open end of the loom, then
replace the last four loops before continuing to work. The
completed part of the strip will hang from the lower end of
the loom.
Before beginning any project, you should make a swatch of
20 wraps, block it with steam only, then measure the swatch
to make certain you will be working to the correct gauge.

Remate
Edging
Una vez unidas todas las tiras debe hacerse un remate en las
de los extremos para evitar que las anillas queden sueltas.
Al igual que en la unin, hay dos tipos bsicos de remate:

Repeat 1 and 2 until all loops have been used. On other side
of strip, reverse the position of 1 and 2.
The technique of hairpin lace is easy and works up rapidly.
By working with different and unusual yarns, the strips can
be joined in various ways, creating spectacular results.
