Intel Brings Changes to Vietnams Economy and Culture
In 2000, United States opened trade relations with Vietnam for countrys expansion,
which made Intel attracted to grab new markets and lower costs of production.
Thus, by opening new plant in Vietnam, Intel has provided thousands of jobs and
training for local workers. Furthermore, Intel also brought some workplace culture in
Vietnam by introducing team-building culture to the workers. Not to forget, Intel
helped the transportation cost for the workers by providing company buses shuttle
workers to the plant and passing low-slung shacks. Last but not least, Intel brought
changes to Vietnams technology by increasing the use of personal computers and
internet and also to build a reputation for Vietnam to export high-end tech.
So, based on my opinion, Intel has brought huge changes to Vietnam in terms of
education, economy, social wellbeing or welfare and culture. Since, Vietnam had
only 26% of internet users in 2009, investing in high technology in Vietnam would
be a great step ahead because it can help MNEs to make geographic barriers less
relevant by providing a high speed and accuracy of information transmission. By
introducing technology to low internet usage country, it could help Vietnamese to
get valuable knowledge so that they could learn and try something new out of the
box. Other than, as I researched earlier, I found that Intel offered so many
scholarship in Vietnam means that Intel would help people get higher education in
order to be skilled labors in Vietnam. Intel put $7 million in scholarships for
engineering students to attend college in the United States for two years after three
years in university in Vietnam. Intel also tried to negotiate with the government in
order to alter the Vietnamese higher-education system in their engineering
programs to make them more compatible with the countrys emerging economic
realities. By creating skilled-labors, it could help the increasing labor demand from
other companies means there would be less non-educated people in Vietnam.
Next, Intel could attract so many new investors especially in high-tech industries.
After Intel made a successful story in Vietnam, there were some high-tech
investment came to, they were Samsung, LG, Nokia, Panasonic, Foxconn and
Compal. It also shown that in 2003, Vietnams FDI inflows exceeded $22 billion or
more than 35% increased from 2012. By having a lot of foreign investments,
Vietnam would have a good reputation in the world as high-tech map so that there
would be more and more leading global technology firms from all around the world
which could make Vietnam economy grow significantly.
Moreover, Intel the first company in Vietnam who provided higher-educational
programs. Thus, by increasing their education, they would be able to compete in
this global business. One of the example is there were 4 people, Intel Vietnam
Scholars Program Students, won the top prize at the Cornell Cup USA. They showed
to the world that they could compete against some of the best engineering students
in the country. Other than that, by attracting new leading global technology firms, it
could create more job opportunities for Vietnam, thus it contributes to the
decreasing of unemployment, which leads to the increasing of social welfare.

Lastly, Intel could introduce new cultures, which not adopted in Vietnam such as
ignoring the hierarchy of status among boss and employees and also, Intel could
make the cultural barriers are being lowered gradually by the role of information in
educating societies about one another. Thus, by having information technology
globalization, it makes the world borderless and human cross-border interactions.
