According to Marian Wright Edelman, It's time for greatness -- not for greed.

It's a
time for idealism -- not ideology. It is a time not just for compassionate words, but
compassionate action.
Yes. We want change. We want to go to the straight path. We want to eliminate the
bad things in our lives. But, all these things wont happen if we will not move. It is not
enough that we know whats happening and what should be done, but we should also act.
The country has experienced a lot this past year and even in this years first month.
On the bright side, there is the progress of Filipino talents abroad and also the movie
industry in the country. Pinoy athletes are being more recognized. Unfortunately, a number
of natural calamities struck the country. We continue to face environmental problems. There
were also debates about the implementation of a new educational system... but, one of the
most talked about nowadays is the impeachment of Chief Justice Renato Corona. The
complaint has been filed on grounds of Betrayal of Public Trust, Culpable Violation of the
Constitution, and Graft and Corruption. There were eight articles of impeachment, primarily
revolving around his statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth, his relation with the
Arroyos, his doubtful decisions in some issues and his appointment just days before the
proclamation of a new president.
The defense believes that President Aquino is opposed to the Courts decision in the
Hacienda Luisita case. Regarding about the Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth of
the Chief Justice, the defense was asking why does the prosecution question the SALNs
before Corona was Chief Justice, if the complaint is when he is already a CJ. If it were really
true that there are irregularities in the SALN, it will directly fall on Perjury which is not an
impeachable case.
As for the prosecution, they firmly believe that the Chief Justice should be impeached
for the reason that he has tainted the Supreme Court with bias and partiality. If ever the
accusations were right, the countrys image and status will further be tarnished. If it were
true that he was just appointed to protect the former President, it will cause a huge havoc in
the society. If the prosecution was right, their job will be valuable in fighting injustice and
keeping the Philippine government in order.
I am on neither side of this problem. However, this one thing I want; I want the rule of
law. I want Corona to be convicted, or acquitted, with the use of evidence and law. The only
way justice is served is through a medium where facts and law are the only things that
matter. Everyone has the right to fair trial. Everyone has the right to freedom within the rule
of law. Indeed, we should do our share in building a better nation. We cannot do everything
but we can do something. It is in our small deeds that we create a big tomorrow. Let us be
vigilant. Let us get involved by updating ourselves in whats happening around us. Be
expressive about our thoughts and insights about issues. Also, it is very vital that we treat
our constitution as sacred. And most important, let us pray fervently for our leaders, our rule
of law, our freedom and our country.
Ang matuwid na daan is something difficult, but the fact that something is difficult
should not determine if something should be done. If that were the case, nothing great will
have been accomplished at all. I leave you with this message, like William James has said; it

is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task, which more than anything else, will affect
its successful outcome.
