About the Christians For Life After 2012 Movement

Life on Earth or Life Everlasting?
Regardless of the Mayan's prediction that the world will end in 2012, countless
scientific evidence exists that the world's extinction is near. Earthquakes,
tsunamis, super volcanoes, solar storms, planetary collisions...

The truth is only God knows the world's expiration date. Christians must choose
faith over fear and be prepared for God's plan, no matter the timing.

Are you prepared? Is your church prepared?

DISCUSSION GUIDE
Will The World End In 2012?
Chapter 1

THE MAYAN FACTOR

1. As you hear a growing number of predictions that the world will end in
2012, how do you react? Do the predictions prompt you to fear or to worry,
or to react with skepticism or scorn? If someone wanted to speak with you
about the "end of the world," what would you say to him or her?

2. Very often in our day, ancient (and extinct) cultures inspire a certain amount
of awe; many individuals ascribe amazing powers or even supernatural
mysteries to such cultures. And yet they are extinct. What does this say to
you about their power to keep you safe and healthy today? What does
Psalm 118:8 have to say about this issue?

3. The Mayans believed that their rulers descended from the gods. Certain
biblical cultures shared this trait. Both the Egyptians and the Romans, for
example, considered their highest rulers to be gods (Pharaoh and Caesar,
respectively). Read Ezekiel 28:1-2, about the king of Tyre. What does God
think about such claims? How does He react to them?

4. The Mayans also practiced human sacrifice, another trait shared by certain
biblical cultures. For three examples, read 2 Kings 16:3; 17:17; Jeremiah
7:31. How did God react to such practices? How likely do you think it is that
God would endorse the prophecies of such cultures? Explain.

5. Read Isaiah 41:21-24. What major contrast does God highlight in this
passage? What implications does this have for the Mayan "prophecy"? Read
Ecclesiastes 8:7. What implications does this verse have for the Mayan
"prophecy"? Read Jeremiah 8:1-2. What does God seem to think of the
practice of consulting the stars to predict the future?
Will The World End In 2012?
Chapter 2

SOLAR STORMS
1. What differences do you see between the statements, "severe solar storms
may hit the earth in 2012" and "the world will come to an end in 2012"?
Why does the first not necessitate or even imply the second? How do you
think you would react if a huge solar storm knocked out most electronic
devices and communications? What role would God play in such a
scenario?

2. Read Genesis 8:21-22. What does this verse add to the discussion?

3. The sun certainly does play a role in biblical prophecy. Read the following
texts: Isaiah 13:10; 24:3; Joel 2:10, 31; Matthew 24:29; Luke 21:25;
Revelation 8:12. What do you learn about the sun's future role from these
passages?

4. Read Jeremiah 3:35-37. In what way should this text give you both
confidence and comfort about the future?

5. Even if some major solar event should occur in 2012, what guidance does
Isaiah 8:11-14a give us? What sort of attitude should believers in Christ
display in uncertain times? Why?

Chapter 3

CERN AND THE LARGE

HADRON COLLINDER
1. From what you understand of the Large Hadron Collider, what are the
greatest dangers it poses? Does this device and its use worry you? Explain.

2. From a biblical standpoint, what do you think about the possibility of a

human-caused accident destroying the earth? Explain.

3. Read Isaiah 46:9-10. What is God's attitude toward the future? Where
would a world-destroying human accident fit in? Explain.

4. Certainly humans can "destroy" parts of the earth. Read Revelation 11:18.
What is God's attitude about those who destroy the earth? What does this
verse imply about any total destruction of the earth by humankind? Explain.

5. Matthew 24 describes conditions about "the end of the age." Read verses
21-22. What does this text teach us about the possibility of a world-
obliterating human accident?
Will The World End In 2012?
Chapter 4

THE PREDICTIONS OF
NOSTRADAMUS
1. What is your impression of Nostradamus, either from this chapter or from
other sources? Why do you think so many people today seem drawn to him
and to his "predictions"? How would you respond to someone who urged
you to take his writings seriously, even giving them greater importance than
the Bible?

2. Read Deuteronomy 13:1-5 and 18:20-22. What guidelines about prophecy

do these passages give us? How does Nostradamus stack up against these
guidelines?

3. Read Isaiah 8:19-20. What guidelines about seeking guidance for the
future does this passage give us? How does Nostradamus stack up against
these guidelines?

4. Read Matthew 24:3-14. What details does Jesus give in this passage about
"the end of the world"? How do these prophecies compare with those of
Nostradamus?

5. Read 1 Corinthians 15:20-26. How does the apostle Paul's outline of events
leading up to "the end" compare with those of Nostradamus? When
disagreements occur between the two, which one are you going to believe?
Why?

Chapter 5

THE REVERSAL OF
MAGNETIC POLES
1. Of the three main negative possibilities concerning the future of earth's
magnetic field—the field will significantly weaken, "cracks" in the field will
grow larger, the magnetic poles will be reversed—which one concerns you
the most? Why?

2. Revelation 16:8-9 may give a preview of the effects of a weakened

magnetic field surrounding earth, combined with increased activity by the
sun. What do you make of this text, and what signficance do you give to the
human reaction described by the passage?

3. How do you combat worry over events that you have no power to control?
What does Matthew 6:25-34 say about this? How does Jesus contrast the
expected behavior of believers with those who don't believe? How do you
personally put into practice Jesus' instructions here?

4. Read Isaiah 51:6. Does this verse frighten you or comfort you? Why?

5. Read Habakkuk 3:17-18. How does this verse suggest we live, regardless of
the circumstances around us?
Will The World End In 2012?
Chapter 6

COLLISION WITH PLANET X

1. What would you say to someone who came to you expressing a deep fear
over a future collision with Planet X?

2. Read 1 Timothy 1:3-4; 4:7; and 2 Timothy 4:4. What contrasts does the
Bible highlight in these passages? How might they relate to the discussion
about Planet X?

3. Read 1 Peter 3:14b. Why should Christians not fear what others fear? What
hope do Christians have that others don't?

4. Get a concordance and briefly look up all the verses in the Bible where God
or His representatives tell someone some version of "do not be afraid." Why
does this instruction appear so frequently? What does this mean for you,
personally?

5. Read Psalm 46:1-3. What is the message of this passage? How does it
relate to fears about Planet X?
Will The World End In 2012?

THE GALACTIC PLANE
1. Does the book's author seem to take this concern seriously? Do you agree
with his assessment? Explain.

2. How does the apostle Peter picture the end of the universe in 2 Peter 3:10?
How does he want his readers to react to this idea (2 Peter 3:11-12)? What
attitude does he instruct us to adopt (2 Peter 3:13)?

3. How would you use Psalm 139:23-24 to comfort or instruct someone who
fears earth's alignment with the galactic plane?

4. How does Philippians 4:6-7 fit in with anxiety over destructive cosmic
events? What instruction is given here? What promise is given?

5. Read Hebrews 13:5-6. What general principle (not related to money) does
this passage express? How should this principle affect the way we live,
regardless of our circumstances?
Will The World End In 2012?
Chapter 8

ERUPTION OF THE SUPER

VOLCANO
1. Have you ever visited Yellowstone National Park? If so, were you aware of its
true nature? If you visit in the future, will knowing about its true nature
affect your enjoyment of the park? Explain.

2. Read Psalm 135:6. What does this verse teach us about the threat and
power of a super volcano?

should these verses give you confidence? What ultimately controls even
super volcanoes?
