(v) Procedure:
Method of controlling manipulated variable :
The runway is raised to a height of 15 .0 cm.
Method of measuring the responding variable :
The velocity of trolley at 10 ticks is calculated from the
ticker-tape.
v = s/t
The experiment is repeated with different values of height such as 20.0 cm, 25.0
cm,30.0 cm and
35.0 cm .

(a) The resistance of a wire is affected by the cross-sectional area.
1
(b) The resistance, R of wire is decreases as the cross-sectional area, A of the wire
increases.

(c)
i To investigate the relationship between the cross-sectional area of the wire and the
resistance.
ii
Manipulated variable
: the cross-sectional area, A of
the wire
Responding variable
: the resistance ,R of the wire
Fixed variable
iii- Three dry cell (3x1.5V), ammeter, voltmeter, rheostat, switch, constant wires with
different diameters
iv
v Procedure:
1. Connect a constant wire of length 50 cm and cross-sectional area, A 0.02mm2
across the terminal X and Y.
2. Switch on the circuit and adjust the rheostat until ammeter reading is 0.5 A.
Record the reading,V as shown on the voltmeter.
3. Repeat the experiment using the constant wires with different cross-sectional
area, A = 0.04, 0.06, 0.08 and 0.10 mm2.
