PLOUGH SHEAR MIXER

PRINCIPLE OF MIXING

In some applications high speed choppers are installed,

they produce localized partial fluidization in the powder
bed, the cutting edges prevent formation of lumps and
agglomerates.

MIXER CONSTRUCTION

The mixer has a horizontal drum with mixing elements

mounted on central shaft. These elements ensure there is
mixing of material in each and every part of mixer. The shaft
is supported on bearings mounted in bearing housings at
both the ends, these are integral with the shaft sealing
units. Large inspection doors are provided for cleaning and
maintaining mixer internals. The bottom of the mixer has a
discharge door operated manually, pneumatically or with
hydraulic pressure. The mixer may have a number of
nozzles depending on the application. Nozzles for feeding
solid and liquid or gaseous ingredients, nozzles for vacuum
connection, gas purging, venting, pressurizing, heating,
sterilizing, etc. and still others for sampling, sensing
temperature, pressure, vacuum, pH and others.
The drive consists essentially of a reduction gearbox, and a
motor. Various arrangements like variable speed drives,
fluid couplings, etc are provided depending on the
applications. The drive is connected to the central shaft
through a coupling. The drive and mixer have a common
sturdy base frame and all moving parts are housed in safety
guards to prevent accidents. Choppers are mounted on
the sides, they have a central shaft on which blades of
different types are mounted to suit the applications. If the
process demands, external heat transfer through jacket is
provided.

ADVANTAGES

The material inside the mixer undergoes forced convection,

the particles are lifted along the circumference and thrown
radially inwards towards the central shaft and axially in
either direction along the drum axis. The geometric pattern
gives a sequential motion to the particles, the degree of
agitation further controls the forced convection. The design
of the equipment ensures there are no static zones and
ingredients everywhere within the mixer are subjected to
mixing.

Closed system of Operation.

Accurate, uniform and efficient mixing.
No lump formation during mixing.
Reduced mixing time.
Variable filling volumes.
Mixes different density solids efficiently.
Wet cake mixing is possible.
Repeatability of mixing operation.
Mixes under vacuum, pressure or inert atmosphere.
Liquid addition and granulation possible.
Drying and wetting can be carried out.
Restarting under loaded condition.
Can be used for liquid and viscous masses.
Minimum and simple maintenance procedures.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Each and every component passes through strict quality

control procedures with series of inspections at all stages.
The Quality assurance plan is adhered to the last detail
giving the best quality product.
Physical and Chemical testing of raw materials.
Non destructive testing, like radiography, ultrasonic, dye
penetrant, magnetic particle examination, etc.
Third party inspection as per the Quality Assurance Plans.
Test certificates for the components procured from other
manufacturers.
