Summary:
In this lesson students will learn what syllables are and how many syllables are in
the fruit that we consume every day.

This lesson is going to take place consist of two 40 minute lessons and one 20minute lesson.
Preparation
of
materials
and
environmen
t
What preparation is needed? Teacher will need to set up Ipads and smart board with
appropriate material. Gather paint materials coloring pages.
What materials will be used?
Smartboard, Ipads, Plastic fruit, paint, plastic fruit and plastic containers, fruit coloring
pages.
How will the learning environment be set up?
There will 3 different tables set up with the different materials. One table will have paint
and coloring pages. The next will have Ipads and the last one will have plastic containers
for sorting.
Instructional Procedures:
Day 1:
For the first day, students will pick out their favorite fruit from one of the coloring pages and
color their fruit. We will then discuss what are syllables and how many breaks are in our
favorite fruit. The students will then be separated into groups of the most popular fruits. Each
group will clap out how many syllables are in their fruit. For the students who have grasped the
understanding they may also spell out the fruit in their groups.
Day 2: The second day will consist of a 40-minute class period where students will get to watch
a pre-assessment video tell help them better understand the concept of syllables. After the video
students will get the chance to make their own video of syllables of their friends favorite fruit
and figure out the syllables.
Day 3: Lastly, students will complete a quiz on quizlet.com. This quiz will be of different pictures
of different fruit and the students will have to write out or match how many syllables in each
fruit.
Students will also be able to take home an online worksheet on their ipads to practice more
concepts at home.
Differentiated Instructional Support: For additional support students who need help putting
together or sounding out syllables may work independently on the Ipad with a game application
helping them sound out words.
