Abstract (should be less than one page)

Describe where your training was carried out (company, department, location, etc.) Summarize
your training goals, activities, and accomplishments. In addition, describe the key elements you
took away from your training. These should be both technical and non-technical (for example,
you might describe such things as how your organization was structured, how individuals
worked together in your company, how technical employee interacted with customers, what
company initiatives you observed, etc.)

INDEX

LIST OF FIGURES
&
LIST OF TABLES

1. INTRODUCTION
Describe the company with whom your training was carried out and the background to your
involvement with this company, including the location of the facility at which the work was
done. Describe your position and the basic engineering areas in which you worked for your
training.
2 4. TRAINING DESCRIPTION
Describe in detail the nature of the work or the nature of the project(s), which you carried out,
stressing as much as possible the engineering aspects of your work. Describe the goals for the
project, the methods used to approach the project, and the accomplishments. Do not disclose any
proprietary information. Detail the various stages of your training on a project basis. You should
describe all the technical and administrative activities performed. Relevant tables and descriptive
figures or pictures are encouraged, but should not be excessive. Samples of the plans or design
and calculation sheets can only be included in an appendix section and must be properly
referenced in the text. Materials photocopied or duplicated from the companys previous
proposals or reports should not be included.
5. ANALYSIS
Describe the usefulness of your training work in advancing your understanding of the
engineering profession. What did you learn from this experience? Include both the technical and
non-technical elements (for example, you might describe such things as how your organization
was structured, how individuals worked together in your company, how technical employees
interacted with customers, what company initiatives you observed, etc.) Analyze your
performance during the training. What are your primary strengths? Give examples of what you
did well. What are the areas that you would like to improve? Give examples of what you would
do differently. Ask your supervisor for input on this aspect of the report.
6. CONCLUSION

Summarize the usefulness of your summer training in advancing your understanding of the
engineering profession, both technically and organizationally. Summarize what you learned from
the experience. Discuss the benefits acquired from the training experience and the ways in which
it enriched your knowledge. Any deficiencies in your education and suggestions for
improvements of the training program should also be mentioned.

BIBLIOGRAPHY
You must give credit to the ideas or words of another person. You do this by making a
bibliography, which is a separate page at the end of your report that lists all the resources you
used. A bibliography is a list of every source which you have used in preparing your project.
The IEEE format is recommended. See http://www.lib.unimelb.edu.au/cite/ieee/.

APPENDIX
List all supporting material such as: a brief introduction to the hosting firm, its management and
administrative structure; sample plans or drawings; technical documents and literature; design
and calculation sheets; and other relevant material. Appendices should not normally exceed 20
pages in length.

1. SPECIFICATIONS FOR REPORT FORMAT

1.1 Preparation of Manuscript and Copies
1.1.1 The report needs to be prepared using a standard text processing software (MS word) and
must be printed in black text (color for images, if necessary) using a laser printer in standard
typeface (Times New Roman).
1.1.2 The report must be printed on both sides of white paper. All copies of report pages must be
clear, sharp and even, with uniform size (Times New Roman with font size for main heading
14, bold and for subheading 12 bold with body text 12 non bold) and uniformly spaced
characters (every line must be justify), line spacing 1.5 and margins on every page of good
quality white paper of 75 gsm or more.
1.1.3 Report should be free from typographical errors.
1.2 Size and Margins
1.2.1 A4 is the recommended size.
1.2.2 The top, bottom left and right side margins should be 25 mm (1 inch) standard margin.
1.2.3 Content should not extend beyond the bottom margin except for completing a footnote, last
line of chapter/subdivision, or figure/table caption.
1.2.4 All tables and figures should conform to the same requirements as text. Color may be used
for figures. If tables and figures are large, they may be reduced to the standard size (provided the
reduced area is not less than 50% of the original) and /or folded just once to flush with the
margin (if the page size does not exceed 250x360 mm).
1.3 Page Numbering
1.3.1 Beginning with the first page of the text in the thesis (chapter 1), all pages should be
numbered consecutively and consistently in numerals through the appendices.
1.3.2 Page numbers prior to Chapter 1 should be in lower case Roman numerals. The title page is
considered to be page (i) but the number is not printed.

1.3.3 All page numbers should be placed without punctuation in the middle of the bottom part of
the page.
1.4 Line Spacing
The general text should be in 1.5 spacing between the lines. Long tables, quotations, footnotes,
multi-line captions and references should be in similar spacing with text size in 12 points.
1.5 Tables, Figures and Equations
1.5.1 All tables (tabulated data) and figures (charts, graphs, maps, images, diagrams, etc.) should
be prepared, wherever possible, on the same paper used to type the text and conform to the
specifications outlined earlier. They should be inserted as close to the textual reference as
possible.
1.5.2 Tables, figures and equations should be numbered sequentially either throughout the report
or chapter-wise using Arabic numerals. They are referred to in the body of the text capitalizing
the first letter of the word and number, as for instance, Table 17, Figure 24, Equation (33), or
Table 5.3, Figure 3.11, Equation (4.16), etc.
1.5.3 Good quality Line Drawings/figures must be drawn using standard software that provides
vector rather than bit-map graphics. Figures must be scalable.
1.5.4 Images, Photographs, etc. must be scanned in resolution exceeding 200dpi with 256
grayscales for the monochrome images and 24 bit per pixel for the color images.
Binding
The student should submit the copies of the report in soft bound form (simple binding, clamping,
or filing) first and after corrections, once the report is accepted, it is the students responsibility
to get it properly bound before depositing the required number (atleast one, Black cover) of
copy to the Department and one for student copy (Black cover). The front cover of the bound
copy should be the same as the title page of the thesis. The front cover should have printing on
the side to include the authors name, abbreviated thesis title (optional), degree, department, and
the year.
