~BUSINESS MEETING~
Kevin Reneau reported that many
individuals and community groups are supportive of the proposed playground that would be our Clubs 50th anniversary project. He has asked for a design and cost estimate for the playground from the expected supplier so that they can settle on the design and phasing of the project. Once this is done we can solitit support from other groups. ~CONFESSIONS AND HAPPY BUCKS~ Gary Irwin actually shot a good round of golf and won some money, so he gave two HBs. . . . Frank Mays neice at the U of Missouri successfully defended her PhD disseration, so he can look forward to free personality analysis by a real professional rather than by helpful Rotarians . .Evie Michons granddaughter was accepted to McAllister College in St. Paul MN. This Scottish-sounding name brought forth some cold weather, kilts, and shaggy cow stories from The Rajah, which was deemed to require a High Five.
President Roger opened the meeting
with a robust ring of the bell; Tony Schoemehl gave a demonstration of the virtues of quick thinking by reciting a pilot slogan that you dont always know when your last flight will be, and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Guests in attendance were Larry Tessler, our partner in Employee of the Month deliberations, and speaker Muriel Smallheiser. President Roger noted that both Al Simonsen and Angelo Costanza were vacationing in Hawaii, but had promised to make up meetings at Rotary Clubs there.

The auction for the May Fine Free Hat

on its gently-used clothing collection drive. If you can contribute, call The Rajah for pick up by his magic carpet.

Still, you can help the Club by being on the Moraga Rotary newsletter team! Contact Frank May for details. ~SPEAKER OF THE DAY~ Our speaker today was Muriel Smallheiser, who was introduced by Debbie Roessler who knew each other when they both volunteered for Wardrobe for Opportunity charity. Muriel is a retired human resources executive and social worker, and is now a volunteer with Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP). HICAP is funded by federal and state sources to educate and counsel individuals about their benefits under Medicare and related insurance entities. They can help people understand their rights as consumers, the sources of funds and resources for Medicare.
They conduct classes in six locations in
the County, and also provide counseling in long-term health care & coverage. The four parts of Medicare are: Part AIn-patient hospital costs exclusive of doctor costs. Part BOut-patient and doctor costs Part CMedicare Advantage Plans (such as Kaiser Permanente) Part DPrescription drug costs MediGap insurance is a general term for insurance plans that covers some or all of items covered by Part A. Private insurers have many plans, and it is important to find out exactly what is covered and what is not. HICAP can help with this analysis. The government has standardized Plans A through N, and premium prices can be compared. The best way to get information is to call for an appointment at 925-602-4163 or review the information on their website at: www.cchicap.org .
