Application

Design

The Dosimat feeder consists of a


suspension frame, a stationary
chute, a movable chute, a conveyor frame, a rubber or apron
conveyor, a drive station, a load
cell arrangement and a discharge
casing.
The suspension frame incorporates a rod gate to enable closing
the feed bin outlet for maintenance
or tare weighing purposes. The
rods may be activated by a
pneumatic hammer. See Figure 2.
The side section, the movable
chute and the conveyor frame are
pivotally suspended from the
stationary chute via two blade
springs on either side and two wire
straps close to the discharge end.

Materials Handling

The Dosimat feeder is an


accurate gravimetric proportioning device for bulk materials such as slag, limestone,
clay, gypsum, pozzolana and
cement clinker. The feeder
extracts the materials from the
feed bin and proportions them
in one operation. See Figure 3.
A constant feed rate is maintained by the Dosimat controller.
Two or more feeders
operating in parallel, as shown
in Figure 7, are controlled so
that the overall feed rate
remains constant and each
feeder provides a consistent
share of the total feed.

The restriction plate on the


movable chute ensures a consistent material layer on the conveyor.
Two load cells mounted
between the suspension frame
and the wire straps monitor the
load of material and the tare load
of the conveying system. See
Figure 10. The signals from the
load cells pass to the Dosimat
controller.
Rubber belt conveyors are
cleaned by a scraper blade fitted
at the discharge end of the
conveyor and apron conveyors by
a separate spillage scraper
flanged to the discharge casing.
The spillage scraper is optional.
The discharge casing is floor
mounted and has no mechanical
contact with the conveyor frame.
As an option, the discharge
casing may have a pneumatically
activated flap gate for check
weighing purposes.
The conveyor is driven by a
shaft mounted gear unit and as
AC motor with frequency converter speed regulation. See
Figure 8. A hydraulic drive station
is optional. The motor speed is
monitored by an encoder. Dosimat
feeders with conveyor width up to
1000 mm are equipped with a
single drive station while feeders
with wide conveyors have dual
drive stations. See Figure 1.

The control unit automatically


regulates the conveyor speed
based on material and tare load to
attain the desired feed rate. It also
makes adjustments for variations
in bulk density.
Automatic OnLine calibration of
the Dosimat system enhances feed
accuracy and product quality by
reducing chemical variations. This
option entails placing the feed bin
on three load cells.

Technical advantages

All continuous weigh feeders are


exposed to random errors and
bias. The design of the Dosimat
feeder makes bias the dominant
source of error and this may be
eliminated by OnLine calibration.
The accuracy of continuous
rubber belt weigh feeders is

normally considered sensitive to


belt tension. The Dosimat feeder
equipped with a rubber belt
conveyor has been designed to
eliminated this sensitivity.
Traditionally, continuous weigh
feeding of coarse or sticky/
abrasive materials has required a
two stage solution consisting of an
apron extractor and a weighing
belt. The Dosimat feeder with
apron conveyor is designed to
handle such materials in a unique
single stage operation. The apron
conveyor is more abrasion resistant than the rubber belt and the
friction between the apron plates
and the sticky materials ensures
smooth operation. Side guards on
the apron conveyor plates enable
fully utilising the entre width of the
conveyor.
