Los atentados del 11 de septiembre de 2001 fueron una serie de atentados

terroristas suicidas cometidos aquel da en los Estados Unidos, por miembros de

la red yihadista Al Qaeda mediante el secuestro de aviones de lnea para ser
impactados contra varios objetivos y que causaron la muerte a cerca de 3000
personas y a otras 6000 heridas, as como la destruccin del entorno del World
Trade Center en Nueva York y graves daos en el Pentgono, en el Estado de
Virginia, siendo el episodio que precedera a la guerra de Afganistn y a la
adopcin por el Gobierno estadounidense y sus aliados de la poltica denominada
Guerra contra el terrorismo.
Los atentados fueron atribuidos a diecinueve miembros de la red yihadista AlQaeda,1 divididos en cuatro grupos de secuestradores, cada uno de ellos con un
terrorista piloto que se encargara de pilotar el avin una vez ya reducida la
tripulacin de la cabina. Los aviones de los vuelos 11 de American Airlines y 175
de United Airlines fueron los primeros en ser secuestrados, siendo ambos
estrellados contra las dos torres gemelas del World Trade Center, el primero
contra la torre Norte y el segundo poco despus contra la Sur, provocando que
ambos rascacielos se derrumbaran en las dos horas siguientes.2 3
El tercer avin secuestrado perteneca al vuelo 77 de American Airlines y fue
empleado para ser impactado contra una de las fachadas del Pentgono, en
Virginia. El cuarto avin, perteneciente al vuelo 93 de United Airlines, no alcanz
ningn objetivo al resultar estrellado en campo abierto, cerca de Shanksville, en
Pensilvania, tras perder el control en cabina como consecuencia del
enfrentamiento de los pasajeros y tripulantes con el comando terrorista. Tendra
como eventual objetivo el Capitolio de los Estados Unidos, ubicado en la ciudad de
Washington.
Los atentados causaron ms de 6000 heridos, la muerte de 2973 personas y la
desaparicin de otras 24,4 resultando muertos igualmente los 19 terroristas.
Los atentados, que fueron condenados inmediatamente como horrendos ataques
terroristas5 por el Consejo de Seguridad de Naciones Unidas, se caracterizaron
por el empleo de aviones comerciales como armamento, provocando una reaccin
de temor generalizado en todo el mundo y particularmente en los pases
occidentales, que alter desde entonces las polticas internacionales de seguridad
area.

The attacks of September 11, 2001 were a series of terrorist attacks that day

the north tower and the second against South shortly after, causing both

The third hijacked plane belonged to American Airlines Flight 77 and was used to
being hit against one of the walls of the Pentagon in Virginia. The fourth plane,
belonging to United Airlines Flight 93, did not reach any goal to be crashed in an
open field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after losing control in the cabin as a
result of the confrontation of the passengers and crew to the terrorist command.
The eventual goal would have the United States Capitol, located in Washington.
The attacks left more than 6000 injured, the death of 2973 people and the
disappearance of other equally 24.4 resulting 19 dead terrorists.
The attacks, which were condemned immediately as horrific attacks terroristas5 by
the Security Council of the United Nations, were characterized by the use of
commercial aircraft as weapons, causing a reaction of widespread fear throughout
the world and particularly in Western countries, which altered since international
aviation security policy.
