On behalf of our entire parish we extend greetings for a Happy Mothers
Day to all mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers and Godmothers. We give
thanks to Almighty God for the blessings of our mothers and for the love and
sacrifice they shower upon all those whose lives they touch. May God bless
and keep you all in his tender loving care!
In recognition of Mothers Day the Altar Rosary/Christian Mothers of
St. Damien's have placed baskets near the doors of the Church with
prayer cards containing a Mothers Prayer. It is their wish that you
take one for yourself or to give to that special Mother is your life.
It is that time of year again! Your help will be needed to put together the SummerFest Cash
Raffle mailing on Wednesday, May 18th in the Madonna School Cafeteria at 6:30pm.
Many hands make light work. Hope to see you there.

There is a natural human tendency to talk a lot but not to do a lot after talking. This will not be
the case with our diocesan-wide program On Mission for The Church Alive! We will be doing
and accomplishing great things together that will touch every parish, every institution and every
lay person, priest and religious in the Church of Pittsburgh. To find out whats involved with On
Mission for The Church Alive! get involved. Talk to your pastor and parish leaders about what
you can do to further Jesus mission in your community.

Pastoral Impressions
by Fr. Bill
Stephen, the first Christian martyr, must have been an amazing
person. For his belief in Christ he
was stoned to death. What is most
amazing about Stephen is the forgiveness that he
demonstrates toward his killers: Lord, do not
hold this sin against them. Perhaps we all know
or have known someone who forgives so readily. It takes courage to forgive. Usually we need
to face ourselves and our anger before we can
forgive. If we want to forgive, what we need
most of all is love.
Our Gospel today speaks of that love. It is the
eve of Jesus death. He has washed his disciples
feet and has given the disciples instructions and
encouragement. Now he prays for them and entrusts them to the Father. Holy Father, I pray
not only for them, but also for those who will
believe in me through their word. Jesus is praying for us as well as the disciples. Jesus entrusts
the future of his disciples, of his community,
and his church to the care of the Father. Why
does Jesus want to give all of us over to the Father? So that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they may be
one in us. That is love.
What can we take away from this prayer of Jesus is that we need to understand that our life
together depends on God. But we need to do
more than simply sit back and say it is all in the
hands of God. WE HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES
TOO!
Our work is to feed the hungry, give drink to the
thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless,
visit the sick, visit the imprisoned, and bury the
dead. You are the hands of Christ. And if you
cannot do such corporal works of mercy, surely
you can do the spiritual works of mercy: counsel
the doubtful, instruct the ignorant, admonish
sinners, comfort the afflicted, forgive offenses,
bear wrongs patiently, and pray for the living
and the dead. We all need to live doing these
simple and necessary acts. This is how we love
our neighbor. This is how we live and love in
the Father and the Son.
