Incongruity
Theaspectofyourbeingthatisfoundedintheactualizingtendency,followsorganismicvaluing,

Perceptualdistortionisamatterofreinterpretingthesituationsothatitappearslessthreatening.It
isverysimilartoFreud'srationalization.Astudentthatisthreatenedbytestsandgradesmay,for
example,blametheprofessorforpoorteaching,trickquestions,badattitude,orwhatever.Thefact
thatsometimesprofessorsarepoorteachers,writetrickquestions,andhavebadattitudesonlymakes
thedistortionworkbetter:Ifitcouldbetrue,thenmaybeitreallywastrue!Itcanalsobemuchmore

Thefullyfunctioningperson
Rogers,likeMaslow,isjustasinterestedindescribingthehealthyperson.Histermis"fully

hardpart,ofcourse,isdistinguishingrealfeelingsfromtheanxietiesbroughtonbyconditionsof

2.Existentialliving.Thisislivinginthehereandnow.Rogers,asapartofgettingintouchwith

Justrecognizethesethingsforwhattheyare:memoriesanddreams,whichweareexperiencinghere
