Field Engineering Workstation (FEWS)
TheFEWSisalaptoporotherworkstationthatisusedforpreparationtasksthatmustbe
performedbeforethesoftwareinstallationisstarted.Itoffersservicesfor:

bootingupthecommissioningnodeforthefirsttime

storageforthesoftwarebuilddelivery

storageforthecommissioningconfigurationfilesandlogs.

TheoperatingsystemonFEWSisLinux.

TheCentOSLinuxisrecommendedastheprimaryFEWSOS.
ItisallowedtouseRedHatEnterpriseversion4.8andabove.Theoperatingsystemis
installedfromtheCentOSnetworkinstallationrepositoryorbyusingthestandardRed
Hatdelivery.

3 Creating FEWS
3.1 Preparing to Linux OS installation on the laptop
Purpose
ThischapterdescribeshowtoprepareforinstallingLinuxOStothelaptop.
Before you start
Ensureyourlaptopispoweredfromthededicatedpoweradapter.

Download Linux OS.


DownloadtheCentOS-6.3-i386-bin-DVD1.isofrom
http://vault.centos.org/6.3/isos/i386/.

Create installation DVD.


Burndownloaded.ISOimagefileonawritableDVD.

Enter the laptop's BIOS setup.


Ensureyourlaptopispoweredfromthededicatedpoweradapter.
EntertheBIOSsetupbypressingkeyboardkey,whichisassignedtoopentheBIOS
setup.Immediatelypressassignedkeywhenitsdescriptionsappearsontheboot-up
screen.
Example
F2 = SETUP

Set bootable devices in the correct boot-up order.


Setlisteddevicesasbootableandplacetheminthefollowingorder:
a) CD/DVD/CD-RWDrive
b) USBStorageDevice
c) DisketteDrive

Open DVD Drive and insert installation DVD.

Save setup settings and exit.

3.2 Installing the Linux OS to the laptop


Purpose
ThischapterdescribeshowtoinstalltheLinuxOStothelaptop.
Before you start
TheCentOSinstallationsetupisrunningonalaptop.

Enter the installation setup


ClickNEXTbuttonplacedinthelower-rightcorneroftheWelcomescreen.

Test the installation media, if needed.


Thisstepisoptional.Ifyoudonotwanttotestthemedia,selectSkipandproceedto
thenextstep.
TobegintestingtheDVDmediabeforeinstallation,selectOK.Followtheinstructions
onscreen.

Select language.
SelectthelanguagethatyouwanttouseandselectNext.

Configure the keyboard.


SelectthedesiredkeyboardlayoutandselectNext.

Skip creating non-administrative user account.

Choose option Basic Storage Devices and proceed.

Select installation option.


SelectinstallationoptiontoeitherinstallfreshcopyofCentOSorupgradeexisting
CentOS.

Name the FEWS.

Configure the time zone.


Choosethecorrecttimezone.ClickNext.

10 Set password for the root user.


Enterthepasswordtwice.ClickNext.
11 Choose type of installation according to your needs.
12 Select installation options.
Followtheinstructionsonthescreen,andselectanappropriateoptionfromthe
dialogs.Thesesettingsdonothaveanyeffectoncommissioning,sotheycanbe
configuredfreely.Thefollowingitemsareconfiguredatthisphase:

13 Customize the software preset.

Itisrecommendedtoinstallnowtheadditionallymandatorypackages,
althoughitispossibletoinstallthematalaterphase,ifnotselectedfor
installationatthisphase.
ClicktheCustomize nowcheck-box,assomeofthemandatorypackages,which
arenecessaryforthecommissioningpurposes,needtobeselectedmanually.See
Figure3:Installationcustomizationtocheckhowtoenablecustomizationpossibility:

4 Logging into field engineering workstation


Purpose
Tologintothefieldengineeringworkstation(FEWS)astherootuser.Forinstructions
onlogginginremotely,seestep1.Forinstructionsonlogginginlocally,seestep2.

Log in to the FEWS remotely as the root user.


a) WithSSHclient:

OpentheSSHclient.

Fillintherelevantfields,includingtheFEWShostnameorIPaddress(and
port22).SelectLogin.

Attheloginprompt,enterthefollowing:root

Attheroot@<IP_address>prompt,enterthepasswordfortherootuser.
TheremoteconnectiontoFEWSisopened.

b) Usingaterminal:

Enterthefollowingcommand:ssh root@<FEWS_hostname_or_IP>

ConfirmthehostkeyauthenticitybygivingtheYesanswer.

Attheroot@<IP_address>prompt,enterthepasswordfortherootuser.
TheremoteconnectiontoFEWSisopened.

Log in to the FEWS locally as the root user.


a) Intheusernamefield,enterroot.
b) Inthepasswordfield,enterthepasswordfortherootuser.

5 Configuring FEWS services


Purpose
Thischapterdescribesprocedures,whichallowstousetheLinuxOS-basedlaptopasa
FEWSforcommissioningpurposes.

Open the FEWS terminal.


Right-clickonthedesktopandchooseOpen Terminalfromthemenu,that
appears.

Disable Linux Security Modules (SELinux).


OpenSELinuxconfigurationfilewiththefollowingcommand:
# vi /etc/sysconfig/selinux
ChangetheSELinuxenforcingvaluetodisabled.
Example
SELINUX=disabled

Set up tftpboot service.


Openthetftpbootconfigurationfilewiththefollowingcommand:
# vi /etc/xinetd.d/tftp
Findthefollowingline:
server_args

= -s /var/lib/tftpboot

Editittogetthefollowingline:
server_args

= -s /tftpboot

Disable DNS server resolution.


Listtheresolv.conffilewiththefollowingcommand:
#cat /etc/resolv.conf
Ifanycontentappears,openthefileinthevieditorandcommentoutallentriesout
byaddingthehashsign(#)atthebeggingofthelineorremovealltheentries.

Permit all devices to access the FEWS.


Gothespecifieddirectorywiththefollowingcommand:
# cd /etc
Allowtherootusertoeditthefilewiththefollowingcommand:
# chmod 644 hosts.allow
Openthe/etc/hosts.allowfileinthevieditorandmodifythefileby
commentingallentriesout.InthelastlineaddALL: ALLtoallowallusersaccess
theFEWSremotely.

Ensure no hosts are denied.


Allowtherootusertoeditthefile.
# chmod 644 hosts.deny

Openthe/etc/hosts.denyfileinthevieditorandmodifythefilebycommenting
allentriesout.

Configure exports file.


ThisistoensurethatmcRNChasaccesstoFEWSfilesystemwhentheapplication
softwareisinstalled.Checkwhetherfollowinglineexistsinthe/etc/exportsfile:
# cat /etc/exports
/opt/nokiasiemens/fews *.*.*.*(rw,no_root_squash)

Ifthelineismissing,editthefileandaddit.

Configure extended Internet daemon (xinetd).


Checkthetftpservicestatuswiththefollowingcommand:
# cat /etc/xinetd.d/tftp
Lookforservice tftpentry,ensurethatthelinedisable=noispresent.Incase
disable=yesispresent,editthefile,andchangethelinetodisable=no.
Restartthexinetddaemonafterfilemodificationwiththefollowingcommand:
# service xinetd restart

Check FEWS services.

iptables-itmustnotberunning.Todisabletheservice,enter:
service iptables stop

nfs-itmustberunning.Toenabletheservice,enter:
service nfs start

xinetd-itmustberunning.Toenabletheservice,enter:
service xinetd start

10 Configure services permanently.

ToensurethatthesesettingsareappliedeachtimetheFEWSisstarted,
proceedasfollows:

enterntsysvcommandtoconfigurerunlevelsservicesinServices
window

disableiptables

enablenfsandxinetd

Result
FEWSisnowreadytobeusedforcommissioning.
