Tripi Crochet Pattern
Material and tools:

Yarn with approx. 150m/50g (Polyacryl) or 120m/50g (Cotton)

o < 100g turquoise
o < 20g green
o < 10g orange
Stuffing (Polyester Filling)
2 plastic eyes with security lock (14mm) or two black beads
Crochet hook size 3,5mm / E or F size, or as specified on the yarn
Wool needle
Abbreviations
[brackets] repeat instruction within brackets as often as given after brackets or to the end of the round or row

Number in front of an abbreviation number of stitches to crochet
CH chain
SC single crochet

HDC half double crochet

Sc2tog single crochet 2 together (1 stitch decreased)

General notes
Please read these instructions before working the pattern.
The beginning of each part

There are two options (I always use the second option. There are no holes at the beginning if you use the loop):
1. Start with chain 2 and work every first round into the first stitch made.
2. Start with a magic ring (adjustable loop) and work number of stitches in the first round into the loop.
Changing rounds
Do not replace crochet stiches by chain stiches at the beginning of each row. Instead make endless spiral. Crochet a first
stitch of the row in first stitch of previous round. Use a stitch marker to remember of the beginning of the round. How to
mark beginning of a row is demonstrated on pictures below.
Crocheting in back/front loops only

Unless noted otherwise always work the rounds/rows through both loops. Sometimes we need to crochet different
structures and we crochet some rows in back/fron loops only. The pictures below show how to crochet through the back
loops (left) or front loops (right) only.
Loose ends
At the beginning and the end of a piece leave a tail of at least 15 cm or even longer, because most of these can be used
for sewing. Loose ends you do not use anymore can be pulled through some stitches on the inside of the piece and cut
off.

Head in turquoise
Rd 1: 6 SC in Magic Ring. (6)
Rd 2: 2 SC in each ST (12)
Rd 3: [2 SC in next ST, SC in next ST] 6x (18)
Rd 4: [2 SC in next ST, SC in next 2 ST] 6x (24)
Rd 10: SC in each ST (54)
Rd 11-21: SC in each ST (54)
Rd 22: [SC in next 7 ST, Sc2tog] 6x. (48)
Now attach the eyes (I recommend to put them in the 13th round and leave 7 stitches between the eyes) and stuff the
head.
Rd 28: [SC in next ST, Sc2tog] 6x. (12)
Rd 29: [Sc2tog] 6x. (6)
Rd 30: [Sc2tog] 3x. (3). Cut off.
Muzzle in turquoise

Rd 12: SC in next 40 ST, Sc2tog. (41). Cut off.
Nose Horn in orange

Rd 3: 2 SC in next ST, SC in next 5 ST (7)
Rd 4: 2 SC in next ST, SC in next 6 ST (8)
Rd 8: 2 SC in next ST, SC in next 7 ST (9). Cut off. Now stuff the horn.
Horns in orange (work 2x)

Rd 8-11: SC in each ST (10) Cut off. Now stuff the horn.
Body in turgoise

Rd 27-28: SC in each ST (24). Cut off. Now stuff the body.
Front Legs in green and turquoise (work 2x)

Rd 1: with green 7 SC in Magic Ring. (7)
R 5: Work this round in back loops only. Change the color, continue with turquoise. [SC in next 12 ST, Sc2tog] 2x. (26)

Now stuff the leg.
Rd 22: [Sc2tog] 6x. (6)
Hind Legs in green and turquoise (work 2x)

Rd 1: with green 6 SC in Magic Ring. (6)
Rd 6: Work this round in back loops only. Change the color, continue with turquoise. SC in each ST. (30)
Now stuff the leg.
Rd 23: [Sc2tog] 6x. (6)
Tail in turquoise
Rd 17: [2 SC in next ST, SC in next 5 ST] 6x (42). Cut off. Now stuff the tail.
Collar in turquoise and green (work 2x)

We crochet the collar in rows. At the end of each row we crochet one chain and turn.
Rd 1: with turquoise 43 CH, then crochet 42 SC, 1 SC in each CH, first SC in the second CH from the hook. (42) (1 CH and
turn).
Rd 3: 1 SC in second ST (skip the first ST), 1 SC in next 5 ST, [2 SC in next ST, SC in next 6 ST] 4x, 2 SC in next ST, 1 SC in
next 5 ST (46) (1 CH and turn).
Rd 4: 1 SC in second ST (skip the first ST), 1 SC in next 42 ST, Sc2tog (44) (1 CH and turn).

Rd 5: 1 SC in second ST (skip the first ST), 1 SC in next 4 ST, [2 SC in next ST, SC in next 7 ST] 4x, 2 SC in next ST, 1 SC in
next 2 ST, Sc2tog (46) (1 CH and turn).
R 6: 1 SC in second ST (skip the first ST), 1 SC in next 43 ST (45). Cut off.
We put the collars with the back side on each other, take the green yarn and continue. Now we crochet around the edge
and through both layers. We start in a corner in the first row of the collars. Now we crochet 4-5 SC until the first SC in
the last row. In the first SC of the last row we do not crochet the SC.
Now we crochet in the stitches of the last row: [1 SC in next ST, 2 DC in next ST, 1 DC in next ST, 2 DC in next ST, 1 SC in
next ST] 9x. Then again, we crochet around the edge 4-5 SC up to the first row. Cut off.
Smaller Spots in orange (work 5x)

Rd 2: 2 SC in each ST (12). Cut off.
Bigger Spots in orange (work 2x)

Rd 3: [2 SC in next ST, SC in next ST] 6x (18). Cut off.
Sewign
Now we have all the parts ready and we can sew them together.

1. First we sew the muzzle to the head just below the eyes and we stuff the muzzle during the sewing.
2. Now we sew the collar on the head. We attach the middle of the collar with a piece of yarn or with a pin in the middle
of the head and then we sew it from one side to the center and continue on the other side.

3. Now we sew the head and the body together. The body we sew in the back part (from the center of the head towards
the vertex). See the pictures below.
4. Now we sew on the front legs. First we sew the last row of the leg to the body and then we sew the legs on the inner
side to keep them fixed towards the ground. Triceratops is leaning on the front legs.
5. Then we sew the tail on the back. First we set experimentally the tail on (must lie on the ground) and sew it. During
the sewing we stuff the tail.

6. Now we sew on the hind legs. First we sew the last row of the leg to the body and then we sew the legs on the inner
side to keep them fixed in forward direction.
7. Then we sew on the horns - the smaller horn on the nose and two larger horns on the head.

8. Finally, we sew the spots on the back.
