EndNote Bibliographic Software Download

EndNote is a software program available free to students of Wayne State University. EndNote
can store, recall and cite bibliographic information when composing research papers. The
"Add-in" feature of the software allows writers to easily insert citations while at the same time
creating bibliographies in the style of their choice (such as MLA, APA, Chicago, Turabian, and
most others).

You can download EndNote free from WSU C&IT (Computing & Information Technology)
Software Clearinghouse http://clearinghouse.wayne.edu/currentsite/downloads.htm
(Click the EndNote/Reference Manager Software link).

IMPORTANT: EndNote releases patches which can be applied from within EndNote. After you
download EndNote, choose "EndNote Program Updates" from the "Help" menu and follow the
on-screen prompts to make sure you have the most current version available.

EndNote Web
You can export and import citations directly into EndNote Web, a web version of EndNote. Before you
begin, we suggest you view the EndNote Web online tutorials at http://www.endnoteweb.com/training/

Creating Your EndNote Web Account

IMPORTANT: You need to create your EndNote Web account from a WSU computer.
Once you have created your account, you can access your EndNote Web Library from any
computer, whether you are at home, at work, or at your local library or coffee shop!
To set-up your EndNote Web account:
Go to myendnoteweb.com. Next to New to EndNote Web? click the sign up for an
account link
Complete the online form and submit your registration.
If you are already registered with ISI Web of Knowledge, use your e-mail address and password to
automatically connect to EndNote Web.
When you open your EndNote Web account, remote access remains active for 1 year. If you receive a
message that says "Sorry, your roaming access has expired you need to reactivate your account by
logging in to myendnoteweb.com from a WSU computer.
Transferring existing EndNote Libraries into EndNote Web
You can easily transfer EndNote Libraries between the EndNote desktop version and EndNote Web. If
you already have an EndNote Web account, EndNote X3 will ask if you want to merge the accounts the
first time you open EndNote X3.
You can merge accounts in EndNote X3 anytime by selecting Tools>EndNote Web and login to your
EndNote Web account. You can then transfer references back and forth between EndNote Desktop and
EndNote Web.

Browser Toolbars for Microsoft Internet Explorer (Windows Only) and Firefox
Once EndNote Web is installed, go to HELPPlug-Ins to download the toolbar plug-ins. The toolbar
contains a link which allows you to link directly to your EndNote Web account while in any
database and a link to capture individual citations and save them to your Unfiled folder in
EndNote Web. The EndNote Web toolbar does not function with all databases, but our tests show the
function works very well with PubMed and ISI Web of Science. You can also use the
function to launch the EndNote Web template to manually enter citation information from the
web into EndNote Web on-the-fly.

Firefox Users

If you have installed the Firefox toolbar,

you can make EndNote Web your citation
import default location. This means that
you can use the export function in a
database such as ProQuest Research
Library to directly export citations into
EndNote Web.

From the FireFox toolbar, select

ToolsAdd-Ons
Find EndNote Web
Click on Options
Select the checkbox in the EndNote Web
Options pop-up box.
Click OK

Short Facts about EndNote Web

At this time, you cannot easily export citations from databases other than ISI Web of
Science directly into EndNote Web.
Maximum storage capacity in EndNote Web is 10,000 citations.
Use of Connection Files to search directly from EndNote Web is limited to Web of Science (Science
Citation Index and Social Science Citation Index) and freely available databases, which have been
identified as:

Center for Research Libraries
PubMed
U.S. Military Academy
U.S. Natl. Institutes of Health
U.S. Naval Academy

EndNote is not showing up in Word 2007

In Word 2007, EndNote will show up as a tab in the ribbon

If you do not see the EndNote tab, you may need to Configure the EndNote Utility as
follows:

From the desktop, click on

Select All ProgramsEndNoteConfigure EndNote

Run the EndNote configuration utility

APA Style in EndNote does not put article titles in Sentence Style

In EndNote, select APA 5th as your Output Style

Select EditOutput StylesEdit APA 5th

Select Title Capitalization from the left

Select Sentence style capitalization
Close the window (use the X)
Save changes

WARNING!!!! This will change all titles in the Title field to sentence case when using APA 5th,
so you will need to correct citations whose titles contain proper nouns, acronyms, etc.

If you have a commonly used proper noun or acronym, you can go to EditPreferences
Select Change Case

Enter the text in the proper form (with initial capitalization) or the acronym in capital letters
Click Apply Click OK
