Mechatronicsisamultidisciplinaryfieldofengineeringthatincludesacombinationofsystems
engineering,mechanicalengineering,electricalengineering,telecommunicationsengineering,control
engineeringandcomputerengineering.[1][2]Astechnologyadvances,thesubfieldsofengineering
multiplyandadapt.Mechatronics'aimisadesignprocessthatunifiesthesesubfields.Originally,
mechatronicsjustincludedthecombinationofmechanicsandelectronics,hencethewordisa
combinationofmechanicsandelectronicshowever,astechnicalsystemshavebecomemoreandmore
complexthewordhasbeenbroadenedtoincludemoretechnicalareas.
Theword"mechatronics"originatedinJapaneseEnglishandwascreatedbyTetsuroMori,anengineer
ofYaskawaElectricCorporation.Theword"mechatronics"wasregisteredastrademarkbythecompany
inJapanwiththeregistrationnumberof"4632714"in1971.However,afterwardthecompanyreleased
therightofusingthewordtopublic,andtheword"mechatronics"spreadtotherestoftheworld.
Nowadays,thewordistranslatedineachlanguageandthewordisconsideredasanessentialtermfor
industry.
FrenchstandardNFE01010givesthefollowingdefinition:approachaimingatthesynergistic
integrationofmechanics,electronics,controltheory,andcomputersciencewithinproductdesignand
manufacturing,inordertoimproveand/oroptimizeitsfunctionality".
Manypeopletreat"mechatronics"asamodernbuzzwordsynonymouswith"electromechanical

Description
Amechatronicsengineerunitestheprinciplesofmechanics,
electronics,andcomputingtogenerateasimpler,more
economicalandreliablesystem.Theterm"mechatronics"was
coinedbyTetsuroMori,theseniorengineeroftheJapanese
companyYaskawain1969.Anindustrialrobotisaprime
exampleofamechatronicssystemitincludesaspectsof
electronics,mechanics,andcomputingtodoitsdaytodayjobs.
Engineeringcyberneticsdealswiththequestionofcontrol
engineeringofmechatronicsystems.Itisusedtocontrolor
regulatesuchasystem(seecontroltheory).Through
collaboration,themechatronicmodulesperformtheproduction
goalsandinheritflexibleandagilemanufacturingpropertiesin
AerialEulerdiagramfromRPI's
theproductionscheme.Modernproductionequipmentconsistsof
websitedescribesthesfieldsthat
mechatronicmodulesthatareintegratedaccordingtoacontrol
makeupMechatronics
architecture.Themostknownarchitecturesinvolvehierarchy,
polyarchy,heterarchy,andhybrid.Themethodsforachievinga
technicaleffectaredescribedbycontrolalgorithms,whichmightormightnotutilizeformalmethodsin
theirdesign.Hybridsystemsimportanttomechatronicsincludeproductionsystems,synergydrives,
planetaryexplorationrovers,automotivesubsystemssuchasantilockbrakingsystemsandspinassist,
andeverydayequipmentsuchasautofocuscameras,video,harddisks,andCDplayers.

robustand/oroptimizedconceptionmethodsforstructuresormanytechnologicalsystems,andtothe
mainmodelingandsimulationtoolsusedinR&D.Specialcoursesarealsoproposedfororiginal
applications(multimaterialscomposites,innovatingtransducersandactuators,integratedsystems,)
topreparethestudentstothecomingbreakthroughinthedomainscoveringthematerialsandthe
systems.Forsomemechatronicsystems,themainissueisnolongerhowtoimplementacontrolsystem,
buthowtoimplementactuators.Withinthemechatronicfield,mainlytwotechnologiesareusedto
producemovement/motion.

Variantofthefield
Anemergingvariantofthisfieldisbiomechatronics,whosepurposeistointegratemechanicalparts
withahumanbeing,usuallyintheformofremovablegadgetssuchasanexoskeleton.Thisisthe"real
life"versionofcyberware.
AnothervariantthatwecanconsiderisMotioncontrolforAdvancedMechatronics,whichpresentlyis
recognizedasakeytechnologyinmechatronics.Therobustnessofmotioncontrolwillberepresentedas
afunctionofstiffnessandabasisforpracticalrealization.Targetofmotionisparameterizedbycontrol
stiffnesswhichcouldbevariableaccordingtothetaskreference.However,thesystemrobustnessof
motionalwaysrequiresveryhighstiffnessinthecontroller.[5]
