Dear Parents / Carers,

HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOLS AWARD

We are delighted to announce that we have received the award for achieving the Standard for
Improving Health, Improving Learning. The school has been working towards this for two years
now and the assessor commented that ours was one of the highest standards she had ever
assessed in Perth and Kinross. Our thanks to all parents, staff and pupils who have been
involved in this over that time.

SPCA VISITS
All classes from P1 – P7 had a very informative visit from a member of the SSPCA about his
work and how to look after domestic and wild animals.

CURRIULUM FOR EXCELLENCE

The school continues to work towards full implementation of the new curriculum. Much of staff
collegiate time, planning and INSET work is spent on developing this in our school.

Dates for Your Diary:

ALL Parents/Carers are cordially invited to attend the following event:
Curriculum for Excellence Parent Information Meeting
for primaries that feed into Perth High School
Thursday 25 February 7pm – 8.30pm
at Inchview Primary School or Thursday 25th March at Errol Primary.

All parents want the best for their children. Curriculum for Excellence aims to achieve the best
for all children and young people in Scotland. Sheena Devlin, Head of Education Primary and
Early Years, and Lorraine Sanda, National Parental Involvement Co-ordinator from Learning &
Teaching Scotland will present a Parent Information Evening for parents/carers. St.Madoes will
have a stand at each of these events.

There will also be an opportunity to meet parents from other local Perth High Cluster Primary
Schools and to see Curriculum for Excellence displays from each of the schools. Come along
and find out what Curriculum for Excellence means for you and your child and how you can
make a difference.

EXTRA INSET DAY

The Scottish Government have announced that they are giving an extra INSET day to all
schools for further development of Curriculum for Excellence. Perth and Kinross have
requested that it be Tuesday 20th April, following the already arranged Monday 19th April.
Schools will therefore be closed to pupils on both those days.
CHILD EXPLOITATION ONLINE PROTECTION (CEOP)
An information evening for parents/carers will be held jointly with Errol School on Thursday
4th March in Errol School at 6pm. The Child Protection Development and Training Officer,
Gordon McKay, will talk about how to keep children safe while using the internet and mobile
phones. The School Liaison Officers from Tayside Police will also be present to give more
information about some of the dangers and pitfalls of internet use. This will be very important
information for parents.

Pupils in school are being taught about safe internet use. You will be able to see some of the
materials used in these lessons and discuss this with your own children.

EDUARDO THE ACROBAT

Once again we have booked the very popular artiste Eduardo to perform for the whole school
and take workshops with the older children on Friday 5th March. P1 – P7 pupils should bring
£2 to cover the cost of £300 for this show by Monday 1st March.

NURSERY
We welcome Mrs Katrina MacIntyre as the new Early Childhood Practitioner (ECP) in
Nursery. She is on a fixed term contract until July.

BOOK FAIR
The Scholastic Book Fair will be selling in school on 26th Feb, 1st and 2nd March. There will be
an excellent selection of books for sale to suit all ages. All sales earn comission for the school
which goes towards new books for our classes and library.

PARENT COUNCIL
We welcome the election of a new Chair Person, Mrs Sharon Connolly. We look forward to
working closely with the Parent Council on many school issues and appreciate all their hard
work in fundraising for school resources.

LATENESS
There are still quite a lot of children arriving late to school in the mornings. Please enourage
your child to come straight to school in the mornings and not “play” on the way to school.
Once in the school grounds no child should leave by either of the gates. There have been
several reports of pupils “dilly dallying” on the way to school.
Please ensure pupils are in the playground by 9.10am.

PARENT EVENINGS
These econsultations times with your child/ren’s teacher/s are on the 22nd and 24th March.
Please return your forms to school as soon as possible.

ROTARY QUIZ
A TEAM FROM Primary 7 have made it through to the second round of the Rotary Quiz. They
will take part in this on Tuesday 2nd March at the Salutation Hotel, Perth. Support is
welcomed from parents. Well done to Matthew, Katy, Alanna, Ewan and Jack.
