ASSIGNMENT BRIEF

Course:

UHAS 3012 Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development

Introduction
Students will be assigned into groups of FIVE members based on AIMS registration list, reflecting ethnic and gender
composition of the class. No change of group membership is allowed. List of group members will be distributed in
week 1.
Each group will have to complete three group assignments during the semester. Each assignment will measure
students skills and knowledge progressively developed during the semester. Each member will be awarded equal mark
unless specially requested by other members. To complete the assignments, students need to
1. work together in teams of varied backgrounds
2. complete each parts in progression as guided by the lecturers
3. show high commitment and cooperation
Note:

All submitted reports should be accompanied by the appropriate assessment forms and peer evaluation forms
downlodable from the e-learning portal of the respective lecturer
Assignment 1: Entrepreneur Profile (compulsory)

A. Background
The main task of this assignment is to gather necessary information in order to prepare a written article or story
(profile) on a selected entrepreneur. This assignment provides opportunity for students to meet and interview their
chosen entrepreneur and learn from them first hand, if they choose to conduct interwiew.
B.
The task
Each group is required write a profile of ONE entrepreneur. The report must be based on all relevant information on
him/her, available in electronic resources, published reports and magazine articles, or interview session. A written
report is to be submitted on the last day of week 7. A brief guide of what information to be gathered is provided in the
attachment.
Each report should be between 5to 10 pages, excluding exhibits, pictures and attachments and can be written either in
Bahasa Malaysia or English. The report should be in the form of creatively written magazine articles format, rather
than merely a full transcript of the interview or a collection of pictures. Copying previously submitted paper-or-onlinebased articles are strictly unacceptable and considered plagiarising.
(notes: students need to submit a CD containing the relevant articles and a soft copy of the article)
C. Assessment
(20%)
The assignment is evaluated based on quality of the report as well as on efforts, creativity and teamwork.

Assignment 2:
Business Plan (compulsory)
CLO 4 & 5: PO1, PO5
A. Background
In the same group, students are required to develop a business plan in progression for their business ideas. The
assignment provides opportunity for students to creatively choose and set up entrepreneurial ventures and develop
written business plan for their respective ventures according to suggested models. Once completed, each group is
given the opportunity to present the business plan to a panel identified by the lecturers for evaluation and comments.
B. The task:
a. Every group will run business simulation sessions to identify business opportunities, set-up and register
their respective businesses and develop and pitch their business concept using the appropriate techniques.
b. From week 8 onwards, every group will develop their business plan progressively until week 13.
c. A complete business plan will be presented to a panel on week 14. A final version must be submitted for
assessment on the last day of week 14.
C. Assessment
Assessment is based on two parts, i.e. presentation and report as follows:

Assignment 3:

Business Activities (compulsory)


CLO 6: PO1, PO5, PO8

A. Background
Preferably in the same group, students are required to plan and organise business activities for at least one day.
Students are required to run their business activities either during university events or organising business carnival
specifically for this purpose. Each group is expected to arrange for all the required resources, including financial and
human resources. A report is to be submitted for assessment after the event.
B. The task
a. One group will be selected as the organising committee: responsible to plan and implement the
program
b. All other groups must abide by all rules set by the organising group
c. On the day of the event, each group must run the business according to plan.
d. After the events, each group is required to submit a report for assessment detailing out all activities
before, during and after the event as well as the financial matters pertaining to the activity including
the budget, costing, pricing, sales, profit and profit sharing. Each report should be concluded with all
points learned from the activity. There is no specific formats or length limitation on the report.
e. Marks will not be based on profitability alone.
C. Assessment (30%)
Assessment is based on a written report submitted after the business activity (15%) and observation during the activity
(15%).
