Task: You are required to investigate hoe the motion of a spring depends on the mass
Title: Effect Of Masses on a Spring & Time

Purpose: To investigate how the motion of a spring depends on the mass and
how it changes the period.

Introduction: In this experiment, you will measure the time for one spring
of the masses. You will need a stop watch to time the swings for one
complete spin which is from the center, to the right, to the left and back to
the center.

Research question: What will happen to the time of one swing if you add
more mass to the spring?

Hypothesis: The heavier the mass, the slower it will get, and the time for
one swing will increase. This might be because in physics, if you add a heavy
mass to anything, it will get slower.

Variables
The Independent variable is the mass of the metals. The range of values I
will use for this is experiment is from 10g 250g, because if you added more
than that, it will be harder to measure or the spring might break. The
dependent variable will be the time taken for 1 swing which will always
change. You will measure this by using a stop watch and recording how much
time it takes for 1 swing.

Procedures
1. Add the spring to the top the object you are using.
2. Add the metal to the bottom of the spring by using a mass hanger.
3. Measure the length of the spring after placing the metal and then
swing it and record the time using a stop watch.
4. Do this for all differen How to obtain the data

How to obtain the data

Measure the length of the spring after placing each mass and

measure it carefully.
Swing the spring for 10 swings and record the time using a stop

watch.
Do the same thing twice for the same mass to be more accurate.
Divide the number you get by 10 to get the time for 1 swing
Ex: 10 swings=19.81 1 swing: 19.81 =1.981

IMPORTANT, SAFTEY PRECAUTIONS!!!

Follow all teacher instructions

Do not play with the masses so you
dont get hurt.

Conclusion
This experiment showed that the mass affects the time if 1 swing. One thing
I would improve in this experiment was to do the measuring for the time foe
1 swing more than once.
