I visited Jalal sons which is located in Main market, gulberg. I collected information and draw a
conclusion by answering these questions which are mentioned as under. That was a very great
opportunity to learn about the retail business. How it operated in Pakistan. I have visited many
retail businesses like departmental stores, hyper markets, and convenient store. These visit
helped me a lot about retailing and its strategy & target markets. I also searched about e-retailers
and service retailers.
ROLE OF A STORE MANAGER.
Being a store manager it will be part of a busy, dynamic environment that changes every day.
The list of duties will be varied, ranging from ensuring high levels of customer service to
reviewing security issues. Other jobs on to-do list will include:

Reaching sales targets and increasing profits


Dealing with customer service issues such as queries and complaints (the customer isn't

always right, but most of the time they are)


Interviewing and recruiting new staff
Supervising departmental managers and organizing training
Organizing rotes and holidays
Overseeing stock control and receiving orders

TERMS OF BUYING MERCHANDISE.


They are buying products from their vendors on multiple terms from some vendors they buy on
credit basis they clear their bills of FMCG with in fortnight and they have credit limit for eight
weeks with other vendors. Some of the products are being placed on basis of sales and return
basis. They clear their bill of sold products on the last weekend of every month.
1- WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE BEING CARRIED OUT TO RETAIN THE EXISTING
CUSTOMER AND ATTRACT NEW ONES?
They offer discounts to attract new customer and do advertisement. They retain their customer by
offering special promoting to their old customers. They also oblige them by free delivery to their
old and loyal customers. And also reward their most profitable customer.

2- What are your suggestions to improve the store operations?


I will give some suggestions to improve store operations which are as follows:
Improve selling practices, adjust marketing promotions and refine merchandising
plans. By integrating video with POS data, you can determine which promotions
are most effective at driving store traffic or increasing the total purchase amount,
and then easily review actual video associated with those promotions. You can
also gain greater visibility to customer demographics and psychographics for
example, you can see actual video to determine whether customers are alone or
with others who influenced specific purchase decisions.
Improving employees at customer service like ,Virtually audit other aspects of the
customer experience inside the store.
Keep the store clean and tidy. Shelves should be adequately stocked and
employees should be in uniform.
3- Write down in detail which is your retail store in Lahore and why?
Rainbow departmental Store is my favorite store in Lahore which is situated at
Rehmat Market, WAPDA Town, Lahore.
I like this store because of many factors which are as follows.

It is situated on very good location in Lahore


It have adequate parking space.
We can get almost everything under one roof.
Customer service of Rainbow departmental store is very responsive.
I never experience any product out of stock.
They have multiple cash counter to make the payment easier.
Their staff has good behavior.
They change and return products very easily.

4- Do we have convenience stores in Lahore? If so identify any three out of them and
narrate briefly are they really convenient stores in the real sense of it?
1. Bonjour at Total Parco, main road, Allama Iqbal town, Lahore
2. Bonjour at Total Parco, main road, the Mall, Lahore
3. Bonjour at Total Parco, Qachehri, Lahore.
According to my knowledge and my visit. I dont find those stores as really convenient
store. Because they have insufficient space. They also do not sale eggs and breads. They
have very little space and they mainly sale beverages and snacks.

a. Rainbow Departmental store
b. Jalal sons
c. Alfateh Store
6- Identify three major drug store in Lahore; write down their names and addresses?
a. Clinix the medical store (153, Multan Road, Allam Iqbal Town, Lahore)
b. Fazal dins pharma plus (30 the mall mansion, opp high court of Pakistan, the
Mall, Lahore)
c. Gourmet Pharmacy (Chuburji Branch, 7/2 Rewaz Garden, chuburji, Lahore)
7- Do we have any hyper market in Lahore? Please identify it if any? Does it fulfill all
the requirements of a hyper market?
We have one have one hyper market in Lahore with the name of Hyper star. It is situated
in fortress stadium, Lahore. This hyper star market is fulfilling almost all the
requirements of hyper store. But it is not situated outskirt area of Lahore because of
terrorism threats. They have items ranging from groceries, hardware, and sports
equipment to furniture and appliances, to computers and electronics.

8- Please name three of major service retailers in Lahore?


a. Ufone
b. Shaukat Khanum Memorial cancer hospital & research centre
c. Chughtai Labs
9- As a retailer if you develop your own set up what kind of retail strategy would you
adopt and why?
I will develop a grocery on a main Multan road, Lahore. My target market will be lower
middle class. Because in this area we do not find any this kind of mart. People have to go
to utility store for monthly purchasing. I will open a grocery store with the size of 500
square feet with addition of following features
We will offer cheaper rates
Free delivery to my customer in Allam Iqbal town and sabzazar.
We will offer cash on delivery
We will serve 24/7
We will advertise in our area
10- Visit a leading retail outlet in Lahore and find out what kind of thick walls are
being developed to create a sustainable competitive advantages. Do you think they
are successful in their approach?
I have visited al Fateh store one of leading outlet in Lahore. Where I found their sustainable
competitive advantage through their original and better quality products and well qualified staff
take care about their potential customers very well. The behavior of their employees were very
good. I think their secret of success is their approach to gain sustainable competitive edge.
11- As a consumer pick up any sizable retail store. Explain why you believe it is (or is
not) in the ideal location according to its target market?
I pick up jalal son which is located at main road, allam iqbal town, Lahore. I believe so that this
jalal son store is not located on ideal location. Because jalal sons target market is upper class.
But this store which is opened in allam iqbal town is not at ideal location because their target
market does not belong to allam iqbal town.
