ART 101 Midterm (FINAL) Examination 3-Essay: 3B

Honolulu Community College. SPRING 2016. DUE: Thursday, May 12 before 11 p.m.

Dear Student,
Please, read this form very carefully.
You have qualified to receive this examination form, because you have officially agreed to the following
academic promissory contract:

Under both University of Hawaii and Honolulu Community College academic Honor Codes, I promise NOT to
disclose any information relating to my ART 101 online or face-to-face examinations during and after the completion
of my ART 101 course at Honolulu Community College hereto after.
I understand any action contradictory to the said promise above, may result in severe academic and disciplinary
actions against me.

Here is what you need to do to take and complete your FINAL midterm exam:
1. Respond to your essay questions with as much detailed and relevant information as possible. All the
material included in your essay answers should be a part of your studies in the course of this class. Do not
include any source other than Sayres A World of Art and our course lecture material.
2. Finish editing all your answers by its official deadline Thursday, May 12 before 11 p.m. Hawaii time.
You MUST upload and place all your answers as a Word or PDF document (Jpg files are not acceptable)
in your Laulima Drop Box no later than your final DEAD LINE on Thursday, May 12, 2015 before 11
p.m. Hawaii time.
*IMPORTANT-ART101 Website and its Drop Box will be completely closed @11:05 pm, May 12. This
is to prepare the site for the upcoming session. Soon, your final grades will be reported by HCC.
3. You and you alone are responsible to make sure your exam is correctly up-loaded into your Drop
Box and is legible at the instructors end, just like your previously submitted files for this course.
Additional Important Rules:
A. During the examination period, you are not allowed to get any academic help, not even the help of your
classmates-No group work! You must answer the questions completely on your own accord.
B. You are not allowed to ask your instructor or classmates for help in regards to the scope or the details of
your essay answers. You must rely solely on your learned understanding of each and every question
as they relate to the topics already discussed during the course of this class.
C. No extension period or exception will be granted. Under authentic and documented self-related
life-and-death situations, your instructor may choose to grant you an exception if he finds your
prior performance above average and your condition severe (Instructor keeps the right to refuse.).
D. Among others, a loss of examination file, broken computer, or last minute power outage is not a valid
excuse. Before you start answering your final exam questions, you are advised to open a DRAFT UH email called, YOUR FULL NAME-ART101-MIDTERM. Keep adding to this draft e-mail and constantly
save as you complete the final. This virtual draft file insures the existence of an additional online draft
should anything happen to your Word/PDF files on your computer. When ready cut and paste your
answers onto a Word document before saving and uploading the document into your Drop Box before 11
p.m. on the deadline: Thursday, May 12. Keep your computer batteries fully charged and take other
measures to insure the avoidance of a last minute power outage.
E. As explained in your course syllabus, there will be 80 points deduction (80) for each missed exam.

SPRING 2016-Midterm (FINAL) Examination Form 3B (120 Points)


Please, answer the following questions as fully and clearly as possible. All of these questions come
from your reading as well as our course lecture assignments and video presentations (Module 5):

1. Based on our class lectures and the subject-specific educational video, in details discuss the
significance of African tribal art in the development of free/expressive and yet abstract
(Western) art of the 20th century? In details discuss, how Western tourists influence the
development of art and crafts in the Dogon culture of Mali in Africa (15 points).


2. Based on our class lecture and video, African Art, identify the following famous painting
(Title, Artist, Year Completed, and art Medium) and the story behind its transformation.
What major style or art movement is credited to the creator of this painting (15 points)?



3. Based on your instructors lectures, in details, discuss the economic and socio-political
reasons behind the dawn of Modernism in 19th century Europe. Based on your module lectures,
name and describe the first and most important Modern movement in Paris/France (15 points).



4. Based on your instructors lecture on Modernism, identify the artist and title of the following
painting and discuss its importance in the history of the first Modern movement originating in
Paris/France (15 points):

5. Based on our class lecture and video presentation, what technological imaging advancement
in 1839 changed the way people make images? And, who are the first three inventors and their
inventions (In this area) mentioned in the lecture? And, how did this primary invention change
our world of art in the following centuries? (15 points)?



6. In details and based on your module lectures, discuss each of the following items and give a
visual example (Artist, Title, Medium, Date, Place, etc.) for each (25 points):

7. In details, discuss the three historical mindsets mentioned in the module lectures. From the
lectures provide an example (Artist, Title, Medium, Date, Place, etc.) for each of the mindsets
discussed and explain how each of the examples relate to that specific mindset (20 points).
