Good morning to the respected adjudicators, my ever meticulous time keepers, my worthy
opponents who are hanging on a loose end rope, and fellow members of the floor. Today's motion
clearly states that this house believes that mandating vaccinations for all children, regardless of the
religious, cultural or personal beliefs of the child or his/her parents should be allowed. As the first
speaker, I would like to define today's motion and further support that teachers should be paid
based on the performance of their students. My second speaker will then further intelligently prove
to you, _______________________________ and ____________________. My third speaker
would then break all the misleading points brought forward by the opposition.
Ladies and gentlemen,
According to the Oxford dictionary, vaccination means treatment with a vaccine to produce
immunity against a disease. Therefore, today's motion means that treatment with a vaccine to
produce immunity against a disease should be mandated regardless of the religious, cultural or
personal beliefs of the child or his/her parents have.
Ladies and gentlemen, without much a dew, let me go with my first point. The American
Academy of Pediatrics states that "most childhood vaccines are 90%-99% effective in preventing
disease." According to Shot@Life, a United Nations Foundation partner organisation, vaccines
save 2.5 million children from preventable diseases every year, which equates to roughly 285
children saved every hour. The Centres for Disease Control (CDC) estimated that 732,000
American children were saved from death and 322 million cases of childhood illnesses were
prevented between 1994 and 2014 due to vaccination. The measles vaccine has decreased
childhood deaths from measles by 74%. The ingredients in vaccines are safe in the amounts used.
Ingredients, such as thimerosal, formaldehyde, and aluminium are not used in harmful quantities in
vaccines. Amount of each ingredient is controlled under concern and no excessive amount is
added Therefore, no harm is caused to the body. Children are exposed to more aluminium in
breast milk and infant formula than they are exposed to in vaccines. Paul Offit, MD, notes that
children are exposed to more bacteria, viruses, toxins, and other harmful substances in one day of
normal activity than are in vaccines. The FDA requires up to 10 or more years of testing for all
vaccines before they are licensed, and then they are monitored by the CDC and the FDA to make
sure the vaccines and the ingredients used in the vaccines are safe.

Having all that said, I as the first speaker from strongly agree/disagree to today's motion. I
reinstate, this house believes that mandating vaccinations for all children, regardless of the
religious, cultural or personal beliefs of the child or his/her parents should be allowed.
