Responsibilities:
The senior staff attorney position is a senior level position responsible for the
supervision and day-to-day management of the office, which consists of
approximately 20 attorneys and one administrative assistant. The senior staff
attorney performs research for the Court of Appeals judges; drafts memoranda,
opinions and orders in a wide range of civil and criminal matters; keeps abreast of
case law and legal developments; responds to questions from judges, law clerks,
judicial assistants, clerk's office personnel and other court employees; and oversees
the recruitment and selection of attorneys, office operations, budget and resource
allocations.
Qualifications:
The applicant must possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school;
admission to practice before the highest court of a State, Territory, Commonwealth
or federal court of general jurisdiction of the United States; excellent academic
credentials; superior analytic, research, oral communication, writing and editing
skills; and at least five to six years legal work experience post Juris Doctor, including
three years of progressively responsible federal court experience and expertise in
federal appellate, civil and criminal procedure. In addition, experience in
administrative, professional, supervisory or managerial experience that involved
leading and directing the operational and administrative work of staff is also
required.
