The One and Only Steph Curry

Steph Curry is not only the MVP of the NBA, but he is also the most exciting
player to watch in the entire league. On January 21, Curry and the Golden State Warriors
(39-4) came to Chicago to challenge the Chicago Bulls (24-17). This was a significant
game because the Warriors hoped to break the 1996 Chicago Bulls record of 72-10.
Although this game was significant for the Warriors, Steph Curry approached it
with the same ritual as he always does. Steph walked onto the court, and started to shoot
layups near the basket before any other player started their warm up on the court. After
shooting layups with each hand, he moved to the free throw line and casually shot free
throws and stretched his arms in-between shots.
Next, Steph transitioned toward the three-point line and his coach joined him with
a cart filled with basketballs. His coach followed him with the cart handing him balls to
shoot. Each time Steph received a ball, he dribbled once and shot in a calm, fluid motion
that looked identical each time.
A few of Stephs teammates came onto the court to take some warm-up shots, so
he moved to the half-court line to begin the next part of his warm up. He intensely
dribbled two basketballs at the same time, rapidly switching them between his right and
left hands. His hands moved quickly, yet he had complete control over both basketballs as
he looked straight ahead and focused deeply. He didnt seem to make a mistake
throughout the entire drill.
Next, he joined his teammates near the three-point line to take more shots. A
coach stood beneath the basket and passed Steph ball after ball, which Steph caught, then
released almost immediately. He caught and shot the balls so frequently that he would
shoot the ball before the previous shot even reached the rim. Basically every shot seemed
to be a perfect swish, yet Steph paid virtually no attention to whether the balls went in or
not.

Fans filled the stadium, and watched in awe as he made streaks dozens of shots in
a row; they acted surprised if he missed one. Meanwhile his teammates carried on with
their own warm-ups. They hardly seemed impressed because they are used to seeing him
do this every day.
Finally, it was time to start the game. The Bulls had the lead early in the game.
After a Bulls layup, Steph Curry responded by nailing a deep three-pointer. Derrick Rose
helplessly shrugged his shoulders to the Bulls bench.
At half-time, the Warriors were crushing the Bulls, so Steph rested for most of the
second half. The final score was 125-94 in favor of Golden State. The Warriors 31-point
victory over the Bulls tallied win number 40 on the season. The game proved to be a
difference maker, as the Warriors finished the season 73-9, beating the record set by the
1996 Bulls team by one win.
