Course Objectives:
To make students familiar with the principles of operation and constructional de

spark ignition and compression ignition engines
To introduce students to the recent trends in IC Engines like CRDi, multi point

Superchargers, Turbochargers, Exhaust Gas Re-circulation (EGR), Three-way
Catalytic Converters.

Performance parameters and Characteristics. : Introduction, Engine Power,
Engine Efficiencies, Engine Performance Characteristics, Variables effecting
Performance Parameters, Heat Balance Sheet and performance Maps in SI and CI
engines respectively
