INTRODUCTION
Business Decision Making is an introductory course in qualitative and quantitative methods
which underpin effective business decision making. The module develops students ability to
incorporate statistical thinking and to take account of variation in the real world during
processes of establishing project initiatives, defining objectives, data collection, data
presentation, data analyses, reporting and decision making.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this Module, the student will be able to:

Learning outcome 1:
Use appropriate data collection and data presentation techniques

Learning outcome 2:
Apply descriptive statistical measures to business situations

Learning outcome 3:
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of probability theory and probability distributions

Learning outcome 4:
Understand and apply statistical inference techniques (including hypothesis testing) in
business situations

ASSESSMENT
The assessment for this module is as follows:
Quiz 1 (online)

15%

Quiz 2 (online)

15%

Final Exam

70%

TOTAL

QUIZ

The Quizzes comprises 30% of the final grade and it covers Topics 1 to 5.
o

Quiz 1 will cover Topics 1 and 2

Quiz 2 will cover Topics 3 to 5

Both of the Quizzes will be administered online through the Moodle. Students are
required to log in to the Moodle to do the Quizzes, by clicking on the respective <Quiz>
link.

The duration of each Quiz is one hour (60 minutes).

Each Quiz must be attempted by the session indicated below.

Quiz 1 - by 7th session.

Quiz 2 - by 13th session.

Students will be informed of the dates of each Quiz at the beginning of the term.

The Quizzes aim to test students understanding of concepts and ability to apply
statistical techniques.

FINAL EXAM

The final exam comprises 70% of your final grade.

The exam paper consists of 7 questions of equal marks and lengths, based on all the
topics in this module. Students are to answer 5 out of 7 questions.

It will be administered on a scheduled date after the last session of the module and
duration of the final examination is 3 hours.
