TUTORIAL - 1 OF SINGLE PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR.

Ex-1: Design a 370 W , 230 V, 50 Hz, 4 pole single phase capacitor start induction motor
has the following design data: The full load efficiency and power factor should not be
less than 0.65 and 0.62 respectively. The starting torque should be about 300 percent
of full load torque with starting current not more than 21 A. The motor is to be ofopen
type with temprature rise of windings not above 40 0C for continus operation. Take
flux per pole 2.7 mWb., current density 4 A/mm2 and winding factor for main
winding(Kwm)= 0.8.

MOTOR.
Ex-1: Determine the main dimensions and Turns per phase (Tph) of a 3000 KVA, 6.6 KV, 50
HZ, 187 RPM , 3 phase, star connected alternator. Assume average flux density =0.58
Wb/m2 ac=35000. Assume pole arc/pole pitch =0.7
Ex-2: Calculate the diameter, core length, no of conductors of the stator, size of conductor,
No of stator slots of 30 MVA, 11 KV, 3000 RPM, 50 HZ, star connected Turbo
alternator.
Assume Bav = 0.55 Wb/m2, ac=55000 A/m, Kw=0.955, peripheral velocity= 160m/s.

If the normal rating is 14.9 kW, find from the circle diagram, the full load value of current,
power factor and slip.

OF INDUCTION MOTOR.
Ex-1: 11 kW 3 phase 6 pole 50 Hz 220V star connected induction motor has 54 slots each
Containing 9 conductors. Calculate the values of bar and end ring currents. The
number of rotor bars is 64. The machine efficiency is 0.86 and a power factor is 0.85.
The rotor mmf may be assumed of 85 percent of stator mmf. If current density is 5
A/mm2 find area of rotor bar and area of end ring.

Ex-1: Find the main dimensions, no of stator turns, and number of stator slots of a 30 H.P.,
440 Volt, 3 phase, 50 Hz , 960 rpm, squirrel cage Induction motor using following data:
Specific magnetic loading = 0.45wb/m2, Specific electric loading = 250 ampere conductors
/cm full load efficiency = 0.86, full load p.f. = 0.87.Assume that stator winding is delta
connected, for normal running

Ex-1

The magnetic circuit of a 440V, 6-pole, 3-phase, star connected, 50Hz, induction

motor has following particulars:


Core length 0.15 m ; stator teeth length 30mm ; tooth width at 1/3 height from narrow end
7mm ; rotor teeth length 15mm ; rotor tooth width at 1/3 height from narrow end 10.5mm ;
stator bore diameter 0.4m ; effective air gap length 0.9mm ; stator and rotor core depth
6.5mm ; mean 600 lengths of magnetic circuit per pole pair, in core ; stator 0.25m, rotor
0.16m. The stator has 72 slots with 8 conductors per slot. The rotor has 49 slots. The stacking
factor is 0.9. Estimate the magnetizing current using the following magnetization curve.
