Sagamore Hills A project two years and $70,000 in

the making, the permanent

will be used each summer to teach young children the importance of

safety as they get ready
to start school.
Every year thousands
of children are killed or
injured in transportation-related accidents,
Ennis said. In fact, according to the National
Center for Health Statistics 2009 report, trafficrelated deaths are the
leading cause of death
for children. Safety Town
is a program that originated in Ohio, and is focused solely on preventing childhood injury by
teaching good safety
practices to all children.
The program utilizes a miniature town
where children learn traffic safety lessons by driving small cars through
a simulated town comprised of buildings, roadways, sidewalks, traffic
crossings, and more, Ennis said.
Ennis said the project
started in 2014, under
the direction of Sylvia
Hanneken as Rotary club
president.
We have raised over
$70,000 so that we could
build this permanent
structure and have
enough in reserves so
that we can maintain the
town, Ennis said.
Money was raised
through the sale of personalized bricks and
street signs, and store-
