TASK#1:

SOLUTION:

Apllying kirchoff law

Loop # 1:

50=14 I1-10 I2 ------------------------------(1)

Loop # 2:

0=-10I1 +30I2 --------------------------------(2)

SOLVING THESE two equation
I1=3I2 -----------------------------------------(3)
Put 3 in 1
We get
I2=1.5625 A
And
I1=3(1.5625)=4.6875A
So
Current across 50v source is I1=4.6875A

Current across 4 ohm resistor is I1=4.6875A

Current across 10 ohm resistor is I1-I2=3.0625
Current across 20 ohm resistor is I2=1.5625A

TASK#2:
SOLUTION:
removing the last brach to aplly thevenin theorem ,,
now using voltage divider rule
Vth =(10*60)/(10+15)= 24V
Thevenin resistance is Rth=((15*10)/(15+10) )+30 =36 ohms
Now make the thevenin equivalent circuit ,,
ouput current across 25 ohm resistor is given by,
Io=Vth/(Rth +25);
Io=24/(36+25)=24/61 A

TASK#3:
SOLUTION:
(a)
On closing the switch .the capacitor acts as a short circuit(no initial energy) so
current across capacitor will;
Ic = 50V/(50K)= 1 mA

(b)
Time constant of the circuit is ;
T=RC= (25*10^(-6))*(50*10^(3))=1.250 seconds
(c):Applying KVL to the above circuit (switch is closed);

Vs=(1/C)

I (t) dt

+I(t)*R

Taking derivative of the above equation,we get;

dI
0=I(t)/C+ R* dt ;
Solving the above equation we get
I(t)=A*e(-t/1.25);
Put t=0;
I(0)=A=1 mA;
I(t)=1*e(-t/1.25) mA;
Put t=1 sec;
We get
I=0.4493 mA at t =1sec
(d)
Voltage across capacitor is;
Vc=Vs-VR
Vr=R*I(t)=50K*e(-t/1.25)

at t=1.3 sec;

Vr=17.67V;
Vc=50-17.67=32.33 which is the required voltage across capacitor at t=1.3
sec
(e)
When Vr=32V=50* e(-t/1.25) V;
Taking log of both sides
ln(0.64)=-t/1.25;
solving
we get

t=.5578 sec

TASK#4:
SOLUTION:
(a)

In steady state inductor acts as a short circuit so current is ;

IL=(400)/(15)=26.67A
(b)
Time constant of the circuit is ;
T=L/R =(2.5)/(15)=.167sec
(c)
Apllying KVL to the above ciruit ;
400V=2.5

dI
dt +15I;

Solving this 1st order differential equation.

We get
Particular solution=26.67;
Complementary solution=A* e(-6*t);
So total solution is ;
I(t)=A* e(-6t)

+ 26.67;

Put t=0;
I(0)=0;
A=-26.67;
IL(t)=26.67-26.67* e(-6t) A;
Now inductor voltage is;

dI
dI
Vl(t)= L* dt =2.5* dt =400* e(-6t)V ;
At t=0.08sec;
Vl(0.08)=247.5 V
(d)
I=(75/100)*26.67;
I=20.0025A;
20.0025=26.67-26.67* e(-6t) A;
Solving this equation for t;
We get
t=.23104 sec;
(e)
At t=.25 sec;
IL(t)= 26.67-26.67* e(-6*.25) A;
IL(.25)=20.719A;

(b) impedance is ;

Z=R+jXL= 45+j66.1248 ohm

(c)

Current flowing in the circuit is ;

I=100/(Z)= 100/(45+j66.1248)=0.7033-j1.03 A=1.25-55.760;
(d)
VR=(1.25-55.760)*(45);
VR=(56.25-55.760);
(e)
Vl=(1.25-55.760)*(j66.128);
VL=(82.66-34.240);
(f)
Vrms=100v00;
Irms=(1.25-55.760);
Then phase angle is;
55.760 (lagging);

(g)

Xc=1/(2*3.14*100*25*u);
Xc=-j63.69 ohms;
So Z=R+j(XL-Xc);
Z=45+j(66.128-63.69);
Z=45+j2.438 ohms;
I=100/( Z=45+j2.438 ohms)= 2.2189-3.10;
(h)

Voltage across resistor is ;

Vr=I*R=(45)*( 2.2189-3.10)=99.85-3.10 V

(I)

Voltage across coil is ;

VL=I*(XL)=(j66.128)*( 2.2189-3.10)=146.7386.90 V
(j)

Vc=I*(XC)=(-j63.69)*( 2.2189-3.10)=141.32-93.10 V
(k)

Phase angle is ;
Vrms=100v00;
Irms=( 2.2189-3.10);
So phase angle is -3.10 lagging

(b)

After correction;

Xc=230/(15.85);
Xc=14.511 ohms;
1/(2*3.14*f*C)=14.511 ohms;
Solving for C ,we get
C=2.19*10(-4) F;
(e):

KVAR rating of the capacitor is;

Qc= I2 *Xc= (15.852)*(14.511)= 3.6455 KVAR;

The diode conducts only when it is forward biased .so during the positive half
of the input cycle, the diode conducts ,while during the negative half of the
cycle, the diode acts as a open circuit ,so no power is transmitted to the
load. So thats why a sinusoidal signal applied to the diode does not appear
the same at the output .Only one half of the input cycle appears at the
output.
