By providing a related equation, explain the law of gravitation.

b)

Calculate the weight of a 85 kg person standing on the surface of the earth using
Newton's law of universal gravitation. Then repeat the calculation by using equation
W = mg where:
Constant of gravitation = 6.673 x (1011) m3/(kg.s2)
Mass of Earth
= 5.976 x (1024) kg
Radius of the earth
= 6371 x (103) m

Define the principle of Newton's first law.

d)

Calculate the weight in newtons of a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) lorry tanker
whose mass is 9500 kg. Convert the mass of the lorry tanker to slug and determine
its weight in pounds.

Figure 5 shows a projectile is fired with an initial velocity of 240 m/s at a target B
located 600 m above the gun A and at a horizontal distance of 3600 m. Given that
g = 9.81 m/s2, determine the value of firing angle a by neglecting air resistance.

An 80 kg block rests on horizontal plane as shown in Figure 6.


Given that g = 9.81 m/s2 and the coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and
the plane is uk = 0.25. Calculate the magnitude of the force P required to give the
block an acceleration of 2.5 m/s2 to the right.

A 1000 kg scrambler motocycle starts from rest at point A and move without friction
down the track shown in Figure 7. Given that g = 9.81 m/s2:
