SCOPE
This procedure is applicable for painting of following work,
Surface preparation for painting
Painting scheme for various equipment, pipe, valve and structure.
The primer intermediate and finish paint material shall be of specified brand
and from the same manufacture in order to ensure compatibility and
achieving best result of epoxy Coating. The same brand of primer, intermediate
paint and finish paint shall be used throughout the work.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to prepare methodology for painting, for various
equipment, pipe & valves etc.

MATERIALS
All primer & paint material, solvent etc. shall be brought in the original
package or tins bearing the manufactures brand name as supplied by the paint
manufacture. The primer and paint shall be procured from any of the
approved
manufacturer, as specified in the contract documents. All paints
shall be stored in
covered place at the job site. The Paints Materials of any of the
following
paint
manufactures shall be utilized in painting.

It is desired that the materials of one manufacturer only shall be used as far as
possible and paint of one shade be obtained from the same manufacturing batch.

All paint shall be subjected to analysis from random samples taken at site from
painters bucket, if so desired by the Engineer-in-Charge.

All primer coats shall be compatible to the material of the surface to be finished
as well as to the finishing coats to be applied.
6.
All unspecified materials such as shellac, turpentine or linseed oil shall be of the
highest quality available and shall conform to the latest Indian Standards. All
such materials shall be manufactured by recognized manufactures and shall be
approved by the Engineer-in-Charge.

All colours shall be as per painting/finish schedule and tinting and matching shall
be done to the satisfaction of the Engineer-in-Charge. In such cases, where
samples are required, they shall be executed in advance with the specified
materials for the approval of the Engineer-in-Charge.

SURFACE PREPARATION:
The steel surface shall be cleaned by sand blasting before application of primer.
Surface preparation shall be by cleaning of dust and grease and the heavier layers of
rust weld splatter removed by chipping with shape edges. The additional thickness of
capping in weld joint shall be chipped and ground to ensure an even surface for
painting.
Fine quality of course river sand shall be used for sand blast cleaning of the metal
surface. The air compressor shall be of suitable capacity to deliver compressed air at
desired flow and pressure.
The sand blasting shall be carried our only during day time, and the cleaned surface
shall be applied one coat of primer, before sunset.
6.
APPLICATION OF PAINT:
PRIMER:
The primer shall be applied to the sand blast cleaned surface before
any soiling or deterioration occurs. The cleaned area shall be provided
first coat well before the nightfall.
PAINT:
PAINTING SYSTEM:
The following painting scheme is envisaged in respect of mechanical
items to be incorporate in the station works.

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
The colour, texture, etc. shall match exactly with approved samples.
All stains, splashes and splatters of paints shall be removed from surrounding
surfaces.

In case of conflict between the requirements of this procedure and that of the
above referred specifications the requirements of the latter shall govern, until and
unless specific intention is meant.
