COMPONENTS IN AC UNIT
What are the components used in an ac unit?
1. Compressor
2. Evaporator
3. Accumulator
4. Condenser
5. Expansion valve
6. Strainer
COMPRESSOR
It is a important part of a refrigeration system. This machine is used to compress
the low pressure and low temperature vapour refrigerant from the evaporator to
high pressure and high temperature vapour refrigerant with the help of electric
motor. Its aim is to increase the refrigerant vapour pressure so that its
corresponding condensation temperature is higher than the cooling medium
temperature of the condenser.
EVAPORATOR
The function of an evaporator is to absorb heat from the surrounding loation or
medium which is to be cooled by means of a refrigerant.
Types of evaporators
1. Bare tube coil evaporator
2. Finned tube evaporator
3. Plate evaporator
4. Shell and tube evaporator
5. Shell and coil evaporator
6. Tube in tube eavporator
CONDENSER
The condenser is an important device used in the high pressure side of a refrigeration
system. Its function is to remove heat of the hot vapour refrigerant discharged from
the compressor. The hot vapour refrigerant consists of the heat absorbed by the
evaporator and the heat of compression added by the mechanical energy of the
compressor motor. The heat from the hot vapour refrigerant in a condenser is
removed first by transferring it to the walls of the condenser tubes and then from the
tubes to the condensing or cooling medium. The cooling medium may be air or water
or combination of the two.
Types (home work)
1. Air cooled condensers
2. Water cooled condensers
3. Double tube condenser
4. shell and coil condenser
5. Shell and tube condenser
EXPANSION VALVE
The expansion valve reduces the pressure of the liquid refrigerant received from
the condenser . Another equally important function of the expansion valve is to
regulated the flow of the refrigerant to the evaporator and to avoid flooding of
evaporator with refrigerant.
Types (home work)
1. Capillary tube
2. Hand operated expansion valve
3. Automatic ( constant pressure ) expansion valve
4. Thermostatic expansion valve.
