outsourcing laboratory testing to a newly created Regional Laboratory including a
thirty million dollar revenue budget with a 10 million dollar expense budget and
260 employees.
Wesley Long Community Hospital

Laboratory Director Responsible for all aspects of the Laboratory: budgets (10
million revenue, 3 million expenses), personnel ( fifty employees), inspections
and accreditations, instilled respect into the laboratory for everyone utilizing
Service Excellence training received from two Pepperdine University Professors.
Accomplished a complete conversion in staff morale. When first arrived at this
position the largest task was to review the LIS, work through the selection
process and then plan the installation of it. Reduced the existing budget by a
million dollars over the first three years. Then following an assessment of
current operations, it was determined to replace hematology, chemistry, and
microbiology pieces of equipment to save on expenses of supplies/reagents and
some FTEs. In addition, the newer systems improved the turnaround times of the
analytical and post analytical phases of testing. The last two JCAH inspections
were perfect 100% compliance (over four years).
