1 Purpose :
The purpose of this procedure is to prepare the sequential system control on the anti termite
activity to achieve the desired product .
2 Scope:
This procedure establishes the materials and method of accomplishing pre constructional antitermite treatment of soil for protection of building against attack by subterranean termite with the
usage of chemical emulsions in accordance with the method laid down.
3 References:Contract specification PL/E&C/CONTR/CIVIL/SSPL/ML/2002-03/20 VOLUME II of IV,
a)
b) IS-6313 (Part-II) - 1981 - Code of practice for anti-termite measures in buildings . preconstructional chemical treatment measures.
4 Equipments :
Spray gun , Mixing container , Safety gloves , Goggles.
5 Materials :
Chloropyrifos Emulsifiable concentrate ( IS: 8944); concentration 1% by volume.
6 Method:6.2 Chemicals shall have relevant test & batch certificates and within expairy date .
6.3 Chemicals are properly stored as per manufacturers requirement .
6.5 Site Preparation :Prior to start of chemical treatment, areas shall be made free from logs, stumps, timber offcuts,
levelling pegs, roots of plants/trees etc. Soil treatment shall start when foundations and plinth area
ready for laying for subgrade. Treatment shall not be carried out when it is raining or subsoil water
level is at the same or higher level than the level of the treatment. in the event of water logging of
foundations, water shall be pumped out and the chemical emulsion applied when the soil is
absorbent.
6.6 Treatment for Masonry foundations and basements:The excavation bottom surface and the sides upto a height of 300mm shall be treated at the rate of
5 Liters per sqm of surface area as shown in the drawing.
After the masonry foundation and the retaining walls of the basenent come up, the backfill in
immediate contact with the foundation structure shall be treated at the rate of 7.5 litre per sqm, of
the vertical surface of the substructure of each side.
6.7 Treatment of top surface of plinth filling:The top surface of the consolidated earth below the ground floor slab shall be treated with
6.7 chemical emulsion @ 5 litres/sqm of the surface area.If the filled earth is well rammed and the
surface does not allow the emulsion to seep through, holes upto 50 to 75 mm deep at 150mm
centres on both ways shall be made.

6.8 Treatment of junction of wall and the floor:Small channel 30x30 mm shall be made at all the junctions of wall and columns with the floor
(before laying the subgrade) and rod holes shall be made in the channel upto ground level 150 mm
apart and the chemical emulsion poured along the channel @ 7.5 litres/sqm of the vertical wall or
column surface.
6.9 Treatment of soil along external perimeter of building:After the building is complete, earth along the external perimeter of building shall be treated by
providing holes in the soil with iron rods aloong the external perimeter of the buildings at approx.
150 mm interval and 300 mm depth. Chemical emulsion shall be poured at the rate of 7.5 litres per
sqm of vertical surfaces.
3.8.3 Chemical consumption record shall be maintained
7 Safety :
All chemicals used for anti-termite treatment are poisonous and hazardous to health. Absorption
through the skin, prolonged exposure to dilute emulsions should be strictly avoided. Person using
or handling these chemicals should be warned of these dangers.Concentrated chemical should not
be used in direct contact of hand / eyes . It should always be used in dilute condition .Before taking
food hands to be cleaned properly with soap . In case of severe contamination, clothing should be
removed & skin must be washed properly with soap and water. Care should be taken that while
application the chemicals shall not contaminate the sources of water.
