In a short paragraph explain the dierence between a sample and a population. Provide an
example of each demonstrating your understanding on the terms.
Selected
Answer:

A sample is a subset of a total population. Samples can be obtained using many

methods including random, systematic, stratified, or cluster sampling. An example
of a sample would be defining your population as males in New Jersey, but
selecting a random sample by numbering each member of the population and
randomly selecting a reasonable number of subjects for the study to be in the
sample. Population is all of the subjects that posses a certain characteristic that is
being studied. For example a study may be looking to find out how many female
cell phone users are in the US. The population would be subjects that share
common characteristics of being female, cell phone users, and living in the United
States.
