1. qualification screening is carried out by chairman and vice-chairman.

2. students who are qualified to submit a thesis should give a

Students who are qualified to submit a thesis should earn

required credits and give at least one presentation about their
research works at a academic meeting.

2) requirement and procedure for shortening enrollment period for

master course
1. earning a required number of credits and meeting required standard.
2. having at least one paper published (or an equivalent).
3. after completing master course, continue to doctoral course.
4. high possibility to complete doctoral course within 3 years.
5. supervisor prepares documents below and submit to division
chairman if student (s) meet requirement 1-4.

of presentations at conferences, transcript indicating credits students

Upon student's and supervisor's requests, the division

screens the student.
Criteria for a thesis grading
- decent research background, clear research purposes and
goals, reasonable results in addition to sound theme.
- the work has to contribute to further understanding of
science and technologies in materials science and
engineering.

6. Division chairman, thesis chairman and 2 vice chairmen have a

reserve screening.
7. at the screening, they decide if the student (s) can shorten their
enrollment period based on their research presentation and records.
8. those who pass the screening will go through submission of a thesis
and research presentation just like other students.

Students who can submit a dissertation have

to meet the necessary requirement, which is
having at least 2 papers (being first author
for at least one) published or accepted with
confirmed publishing date in refereed and
prestigious international journals.

1) Qualification for dissertation submission

Qualification for a dissertation submission

- qualification screening is carried out by chairman and vice chairman

based on submitted thesis (published or manuscript with confirmation of
publication) and the dissertation.

Students who can submit a dissertation have to earn required

credits and satisfy the necessary requirement as follows:

2) Number of published papers

Doctor (normal course): at least 2 papers
Doctor by dissertation: at least 3 papers
The papers have to meet the three conditions below:
1. they have to be published in refereed journals.
2. it is preferable that students are the first author for at least one
paper for doctoral normal course, and at least 2 papers for doctor by
dissertation.

1. earning required numbers of credits and meeting required standard.
2. having 3 papers published (or with confirmed publication) and being

3. supervisor holds a screening committee with vice chairman and
division chairman.
4. those who are approved by the committee submit a thesis and go
through an ordinary screening.
(4) at degree council meeting, at least one professor outside the
student's Division must attend.

ability to give a presentation about their research internationally.
The requirements are as follows:

or should achieve a comparable excellent standard.

1) students who are qualified to submit a thesis should

give a presentation about their research, which is related
to their thesis theme at a national conference or should
achieve a comparable excellent standard.

1) if they intend to stay 2 years in master course, they either

give a presentation about their research, which is related to their
thesis theme at a conference, symposium, or research convention
or have their work published in a journal or entered into a
contest.

2) students who are academically excellent with more

than 1 paper published in prestigious journal and
sufficient required credits can ask for shortening of
enrollment period in master course. They have to go
through screening by their division (they have to have a
desire to continue onto doctoral course).

2) as a rule, students who want to shorten enrollment period in

master course have to have at least 1 paper published or
accepted with confirmed publishing in refereed and prestigious
journal (being the first author); however, details will be
discussed by thesis guidance committee, depending on student's
research field and contents.

Students who can submit a dissertation have to do research on

something academically significant and get positive public
feedback. Requirements are as follows:

A)
Student who can submit a dissertation (doctor by
coursework) have to have a paper published or
accepted in prestigious international journals (being
the first author) which are granted the impact factor,
approved by their division and related to their field of
study.
B)
Students who are academically excellent with more
than 3 papers published in the above-mentioned
prestigious journals and sufficient required credits can
ask for shortening of enrollment period in doctoral
course. They have to go through screening by their
division.

Students who can submit doctoral dissertation have to

meet the requirements as follow:

1) if they intend to stay 3 years in doctoral course, they have to

have at least 1 paper published or accepted with confirmed
publishing in refereed and prestigious journals (being the first
author).
2) as a rule, students who want to shorten enrollment period in
doctoral course have to have at least 3 papers published or
accepted with confirmed publishing in refereed and prestigious
journals (being the first author); however, details will be
discussed by thesis guidance committee, depending on student's
research field and contents.

have to have at least 1 paper published or accepted with
confirmed publishing in prestigious refereed journals

course by 2 years, they have to have at least 3 papers

years, they have to have at least 2.5 papers published in
prestigious refereed journals (being the first author).
4) if they want to shorten less than a year, they have to
have at least 2 papers published in prestigious refereed
journals (being the first author).
5) Prestigious journal refers to journals with a level higher
than ones by Academic Society HomeVillage and referee
system. Commentary printed in refereed journals with a
level higher than ones by Academic Society HomeVillage
or in international conference proceedings can be counted
as 0.5.
